Over heated my self cleaning oven - fumes dangerous?

Yes I worry too much. Would this worry you?
So I went to self clean my oven today. I was meant to leave it on gas mark 8 for 2 hours, instead I had it cranked to the max meaning the flames were on full the entire time.
I only realised when I started smelling it... After about 1.5 hours!

Do you think over heating it has given off dangerous fumes?

Anyone?

Does the lack of reassuring comments mean I have poisoned me and D's with fumes?

Would be very surprised if this was harmful at that level of exposure.

WhyNotMe40 · 13/02/2020 17:58

I'm having a proper panic especially as D's started coughing

I'm exhausted!

wrong thread sorry Blush

WhyNotMe40 · 13/02/2020 18:41

I suppose if it could get hot enough to give off dangerous fumes there would be some sort of cut off safety feature to make sure that couldn't happen?

Gas mark 8 is the highest mine goes to anyway

WhyNotMe40 · 13/02/2020 18:44

The highest number on mine is 9 but the actual dial goes higher

When my oven self cleans it gets much hotter than the usual max cooking temp. It always smells a bit. i'd not be worried.

Open a window

WhyNotMe40 · 13/02/2020 18:45

The flames stayed high the entire time. When I realised it should have just been at 8 I turned it down and the flames went really small

I did have the windows open and the extraction on

I've actually been sick I'm panicking that much

I have an electric self cleaning oven and it says that any fumes aren't dangerous to humans (but does mention some birds can be sensitive to them). The cost of the gas would worry me more than any fumes Grin

WhyNotMe40 · 13/02/2020 19:43

Thanks - I think! Grin
Well given that it was several hours ago and other than a slightly acrid taste in the back of the throat +but that could be imagined from anxiety, I guess we will live...

I thought self cleaning ovens worked by getting super hot and burning off all the debris? Gas mark 8 is just the normal temperature I'd cook a pizza at. Or have I got mixed up?

longearedbat · 14/02/2020 17:00

After all that alarm, was it actually clean when you looked inside?
