Can hives look like nettle stings? ** pic attached**

DD came up in these spots last night. She had earlier been out playing so I assumed it must have been nettle stings. Anyway, it’s just come up again on the other cheek and I’ve realised that the common denominator is that she’s eaten grapes just before the spots have appeared both times.

I suffer from hives myself and my other DD has allergies to strawberries and raspberries but our hives have never looked like this.

Would be helpful if I had actually attached the picture 🙈

DS gets what looks like massive nettle stings on his back and legs when he comes up in hives. I’ve not seen such little ones before but I can’t see any reason why not, especially if both times it’s after the same food.

Yes, mine tends do look like that. Occasionally just patches of 2-4 and other times large patches but all look quite small and similar to nettle rash.

I get hives. Sometimes they look like that, other times they look different.

Try to stop her scratching and keep them really clean. I got a staph infection from scratching last time I had hives. Still deslingvwith the aftermath.

Your child has beautiful eyes, btw.

Yes , I get systemic hives after dairy - but they are bigger than your pic and not in a cluster. That almost looks like a couple of mozzie bites. But if you know she’s eaten grapes specifically then could be that although I didn’t know that was an allergenic food.

MegaClutterSlut · 13/02/2020 14:24

Yes, its called nettle rash. I had to take ds to the docs because he had it all over his body, we didn't work out what caused it

My daughter had hives on her cheeks just like that as a baby, after eating quinoa, lentils and kiwi.

Looks like urticaria (hope it's spelled correct) my daughter had it from an allergic reaction to penecillin and has been on medication for 8 years.

HoHoHolyCow · 13/02/2020 15:09

If DS2 came out in spots like that I wouldn't link them to his allergies (nuts, eggs) as his hives tend to come up bigger, are more irregularly shaped and tend to be round his mouth. Those look like bites/stings or heat spots to me!

PhilomenaChristmasPie · 13/02/2020 15:12

I wonder what's causing mine and DD's then. I didn't know they were hives.

KatharinaRosalie · 13/02/2020 15:27

yes - the term urticaria (hives) actually comes from latin for 'nettle'.

Coconuttt · 13/02/2020 18:05

Thanks all, they’re just so different from what I’ve seen before but it sounds as though they are definitely hives.

@TheLightSideOfTheMoon thank you ☺️ She’s got big eyes and her pupils are always huge so they just look so dark... unfortunately she didn’t get them from me 😆
