My 2010 Kindle has given up the ghost Sad

Are all the new versions like phone or tablet screens?

You mean the paper white? No, it's not like that at all. The fire tablets are just like any other tablet though.

windymillersmill · 10/02/2020 11:05

No, not at all. They are pretty good but battery life could be better, the light uses a lot.

FlickyEyeliner · 10/02/2020 11:08

Oh great! I thought that meant it was tablet like.

Next stupid question- does it come with a charger? I can see a bundle which is Paperwhite + cover + charger, but don’t see a mention of a charger otherwise?

I've got a paperwhite and a fire, the fire has a screen like a phone - great for internet but awful to read on. The paperwhite light is totally different, it's adjustable and much more pleasant to read on.

They're not backlit, I think the lights are actually at the edges so it illuminates across the surface? Much easier on the eyes, and does actually look lit up, just looks white. I have a feeling they don't come with chargers anymore (it's a few years since I bought mine and can't remember) but it's just a standard micro USB.

I have no idea how the paperwhite lighting works, but its not tiring on the eyes at all and works in all light conditions. Love mine!

Thanks everyone. I love my Kindle! I’ve ordered a new one. 15% off because I had the old model too. Not bad.

How did you get the 15% off? I too have one of the earliest Paperwhites and the battery life is noticeably diminishing. If/when it gives up the ghost, I will be wanting to replace it immediately, but obviously am interested if there's a way to save a few quid.

If you chat to an advisor through the Contact Us bar, they apply it to your account. Took it down to £58, and I’m going to pay in instalments. Altogether quite reasonable.

It charges with a micro USB which is the same as most android phones unless you've got a top of the range new one. I can't remember if mine came with a charging cable, because we have about 100 of those cables around the house in various forms, so I just use whichever one is nearby :)

fruitpastille · 10/02/2020 19:17

It's worth paying an extra tenner to have no adverts on it too.

billsmothers · 10/02/2020 21:20

Yes, I paid the extra £10 and am so glad I did.
