How many cups/mugs do you own

How many cups/mugs to you actually own?

I have a whole cupboard full but can't get rid of any because, it's someone birthday mug or it's a one with a picture on or it's a Mother's Day gift.

I would have so much more space if we all just had one each and then a couple for guests so why I can't I bring myself to just get rid.

I think about 50 at last count... I would have more if we had more space. I love mugs with funny messages, sweet prints etc,.
But we like to host friends often for tea and coffee, dinner so they get used.
Definitely some from giant pint of tea size to dainty vintage cup and saucers. Love my mug collection.

Richer Sounds can’t go in the mug bin, he absolutely has a purpose, he is the most perfect size for Lemsip, he holds just the right proportion of powder to water!

23 everyday use ones, none match, including the DC's. They nearly all fit on one shelf of a half depth cupboard. But there's always one or two in use so it's only a problem before we go on holiday! I have 3 in the attic awaiting space in the cupboard. I have 8 good ones for guests in the good crockery cupboard. Get used 1/2 a year.

If you are in the right headspace how about taking photo (respectful photo) of those you can réhome. You could have montage of ‘mugs I’ve loved’ on inside of that cupboard door or similar. Or a book of memories.
Not altogether joking - recent bereavement house sortings have meant I’ve discovered how useful it is to take a photo of things before they are chucked/recycled/rehomed.
Good luck op.

I’ve got loads and end up double stacking them! I only tend to buy one of each and often buy when I don’t need any more.

Used to have tons but did a huge cull when we moved house last year so now it’s just 6 le creuset ones and then 4 random that I couldn’t bear to let go.

That said I also do collect Moomin mugs Grin and have about 18 of those but they look really pretty on my dresser and I’ve not bought any more for years now, occasionally my mum will get me a new one.

Blueberryblueberry · 10/02/2020 07:21

I have 7 (smashed one) which match the dinner service. Then I have about 4 random ones which are varying similar colours and random stoneware shaped mugs which sort of match the dinner service and look nice but none matchy. Then there is a cupboard of random mugs which I give to the gardener/window cleaner/anyone including me who is in the garden. I have a specific sized cup for my morning brew and one for my decaff drink in the evening - I also have mugs which are perfect for herbal teas.... There's a few Christmas market mugs for mulled wine and the kids drinks around Xmas. I may have a problem... Grin

About 50 and I've recently had a cull!

GaaaaarlicBread · 10/02/2020 07:44

I’ve just counted especially for this post , OP, and we have 34. Too many! We need to get rid of some before baby arrives ready for baby cups etc lol
Our issue is ours are sets , we have two that have ‘Mr and Mrs’ on and the year we got married as they were a gift , but the rest are sets of 4 with woodland animals on, farm animals etc . DH wouldn’t care if we got rid but I find it hard , but we only ever use the same 2 lol!

ForalltheSaints · 10/02/2020 08:24

About 30.

FruityWidow · 10/02/2020 08:31

5

Spartonian · 10/02/2020 11:02

I have counted 54, that does not include the ones randomly growing cultures in teens bedrooms.

Too many, probably around 30. We just don’t need that many mugs!

labazsisgoingmad · 10/02/2020 11:52

prob 30+ i have about 5 Emma Bridgwater mugs so they have to stay a few others my kids bought me but i tend to not use them have them for pen tidies etc and one is by dogs ashes box in the lounge the rest get on my wick only 2 of us so yes they will have to go!

CorianderLord · 10/02/2020 11:52

Loads

spiderlight · 10/02/2020 12:01

FAR too many. Ten favourites on a massive mug tree and then about another fifteen in a cupboard, and that's after a huge cull the other week when we had our kitchen done. MIL and my friend just keep buying them for us. I have hinted very strongly that we have more than enough but they keep coming!

HaudMaDug · 10/02/2020 14:30

I have 8 mugs and 6 cups. I've been drinking from the same mug since 1993 and most of the cupboard mugs have never been used. (I'm not one for guests).
My ex BF chose the manky chipped mug that was on the worktop first time he had a coffee here. It was the one I used to water the plants but it became his mug, there were much better ones in the cupboard but that would have meant opening a door and using his eyes.

Enough in which to serve wine alongside the loaves and fishes. Probably Grin
