Both of mine were prem DS was 34+5 and 4lb130z and DD was 35+1 and 5lb4oz. DS i was induced on the drip and pushed for about 10 mins and DD i dont think i pushed more than 5 times! I keep seeing posts on fb saying "i only pushed for an hour". Have i been exceptionally lucky or is it because i have little babies and labour VERY fast?

I pushed for 90 minutes. Bloody agony

Willow4987 · 08/02/2020 20:27

DS 1 - 5 hours....Confused all because he got stuck and my body wouldn’t stop pushing! It was completely involuntary resulting in transfer to labour ward after 3 hours and I only stopped pushing when the spinal took effect 2 hours later

DS2 is a planned c section after that horrific experience

I'd read that most babies are born with around 30-1hr of pushing so when I got to 10cm and they told me to start pushing (no urge) I was all like "yeah nearly over, great" got disheartened when we got to 1 hour. By 2 hours I was exhausted (19hours of total active labour at this point), by 3 I lost the will to live and when he was finally delivered I was being slapped awake between contractions and hallucinating with exhaustion. Was so glad when I got taken to theatre for my retained placenta because I could sleep!

I pushed my 3 5kg baby out in two pushes so inky a few seconds. I did have alot of amniotic fluid. In fact Dr said he'd never seen so much when he broke my membranes. Heard that this makes for an easy push.

I can't remember with DC1 but it was a long time & ended up with forceps. It was 20 minutes with DC2 and five with DC3.

Eeeeek2 · 08/02/2020 20:53

Dc1 2 hours they were just about to start cutting, both hands up by face
Dc2 2 pushes less than a minute (though I arrived at hospital crowning)

One big push and one big rip Grin

Horrendous back-to-back labour with dc1. No urge, but pushed for 3 hours. Ended up with rotational forceps, episiotomy and 3rd degree tear. Dc2 was an elective section - easy peasy in comparison.

eandz13 · 08/02/2020 21:17

My first I pushed for about 1hr 45mins. My second about 10 mins? About 3 'urge to push' contractions and he was out.

HoldMyLobster · 08/02/2020 21:21

2 hours - "Push like you need a really big poo! Harder! And again!" Repeat for hours.
1 hour - "Don't push too hard."
18 minutes - "Oh shit he's coming."

addictedtotheflats · 08/02/2020 21:26

2 hours, ended up in theatre with forceps. He was 9lb 9 and facing sideways

Pushing takes longer than just the crowning. I think the crowning stage was 2-3 contractions with DC1 and then 1.5 with DC2 because I remembered that awful pain and didn't want to be stuck there for any longer than necessary! But there is also the moving them down the birth canal part, which took a couple of hours with DC1 and then DC2 it still took a good 20-30 mins. I always want to push too early and they have to tell me to hold off so I remember finally being told I was OK to push now with both of them!

Also I did not in any way have an awareness of time at the time this was happening because I was too out of it so the timings are based on what other people have said. I don't know whether that's the same for everyone. Honestly it could have been 4 hours or 4 minutes and I wouldn't know the difference.

No pushing, water birth with self hypnosis. She came all on her own.... literally just appeared.... her little head just suddenly popped out. I said to the midwife “I can feel her head”, she started waffling on about how that was because the baby was traveling down the birth canal..., I said “No, I mean I can feel the head... with my hand.... her heads out!” The midwife moved sharpish off her chair then Grin

Boy did the placenta come as a shock, had to push that out Blush

wendz86 · 08/02/2020 22:08

About 20 mins. I was only allowed an hour as it was a vbac so glad it didn't take too long.

Purplelion · 09/02/2020 08:55

DD1-20 minutes, 7lb8oz
DD2-8 minutes, 8lb11oz
DD3-3 minute, 9lb1oz.

With all of them I did have a strong urge to push. My labours also got shorter (27 hours, 5 hours, 3 hours)

cptartapp · 09/02/2020 09:01

DC1 two and a half hours I think. It's all a bit of a blur. Back to back labour. Epidural.
DC2 about twenty minutes. Was trying not to push as he came so quickly whilst midwife was frantically opening the delivery packs etc. My waters went with a bang and my body just kind of pushed involuntarily.
