Help me with my DS birthday dilemma

DS turns 13 soon. My dilemma is do I or don't I book him a helicopter flight as a surprise?
I think he'll like it and it will be a lasting memory for his first special birthday. However, it's a lot of money and also if the weather isn't good we won't be able to fly on his birthday so that's the surprise ruined! I just can't decide.
I've already bought presents and we're having a family party so this would be something extra especially because he's turning into a teen.
Help!

Has he ever mentioned a desire to have a helicopter flight, or would it just be something you think he’d like?

Whynosnowyet · 07/02/2020 14:32

Personally given the recent Kobe Bryant tragedy my ds would be horrified....

He's not mentioned it to be fair I'm just trying to honk of something memorable and there's an airfield local to us so we could fly over home and school.

How about a driving lesson instead? Mercedes Benz do some great ones and there are lots of local companies too.

I was gifted a helicopter experience by my parents for my 16th as it was also a special birthday. It was a very memorable gift and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
It was a great experience and as it was a clear day you could see far. We did have a little turbulence at one point but it had no effect on the experience.
As you said though it is quiet weather dependant. This was in may.

His birthday is soon.
@PleaseGiveMeAShake that's encouraging thanks I want something he'll talk about when he's grown up

My DS was given a helicopter ride last Christmas. The first date was delayed by bad weather but the second went ahead and he loved it. It was very short but he got to sit up front with the pilot and found it really exciting.

If it's something you think he'd be interested in/enjoy then I would book it, o took mine to London last year and he still talks about it and wanting to go back.

That said - I flew in a helicopter at that age (granted not for my birthday) and really didn't think it was very interesting and don't remember much other than the head set being really uncomfortable!

I got husband a helicopter lesson once, he loved it.

What about a young drivers driving lesson if you decide against the helicopter? My youngest son loves them.

Thanks everyone. I still can't make my mind up ha! He's done young driver a few times before so that wouldn't be something out of the ordinary.
