Best way to get a credit check for myself

peoplepleaser1 · 07/02/2020 08:47

DH and I need to look at redoing our mortgage this summer. When we bought our house my credit check showed an issue which was an error and it caused us lots of issues.

So I'm thinking that in advance of that I would like to see if there are any outstanding issues on my credit files.

I've 'had a google' and have come across lots of companies offering to do this for a fee. I realise I'll need to pay but I'm not sure how best to go about this and would really appreciate advice from mumsnetters who are in the know.

Thank you

I check mine with Clearscore and it's usually accurate and free.

There are ones you pay for, which I did before a mortgage application and it didn't tell me anything different or extra than the free one.

Why do you need to pay? I use credit karma. It's free and seems pretty comprehensive to me. They give you alerts if anything changes on your file for the better it worse.

Use Credit Club MSE - set up by Martin Lewis and it is free. It is a copy of your credit report from Experian.

As others have said, Credit Karma and Clear Score are free to and link up to TransUnion and Equifax.

There's free ones and you can sign up to a monthly one on the money saving expert site

I access mine on 3 sites - Credit Karma, Clearscore and MSE credit club. They're all free and sometimes one will show something another doesn't.

Equifax is the best and you get a full downloadable report - the first so many days are free so you can sign up, download and print your reports but then cancel before the first monthly payment is due

BrimfulofSasha · 07/02/2020 12:42

use Credit Karma as others have suggested

No need at all to pay, MSE credit club and Credit Karma are both totally free, don't know about Clear Score.
