I live in a very small studio, I like pastel and light colors, but not girly… I used to, but I need to change now as I am older and changing… If somebody can recommend some sheets for a twin bed, maybe some rugs and other decorations that a 36-year-old would have in their room… I would appreciate it… I have special needs, and was into very young things. And people were also buying things for me that were some times much younger…

I really need to change some things around…

I am also register blind, have a tiny bit of sight but the better the lighting is, and lights are bright colors really help… I am thinking of buying one of those sad lamps, just because the light is so good.

Given what you have said I would concentrate on textures first. Do you like warm flannel type sheets or do you prefer cool smooth cotton. I like the latter though a little bit of flannel in the depths of winter can be good.

I always have white bed linen. I think it looks grown up and it can all be washed together. You could dress the bed with a nice fleece or satin throw. Again pick which texture you prefer.

Moving on to colours. How about a nice teal or turquoise blue. Or a stronger pink or purple. Pick your favourite pastel colour and go for a deeper shade or have a mix of Jewel colours like emerald green, ruby red, sapphire blue, topaz etc.Having said that if you love pastels I dont see why you feel you have to move away from them.

Along with a throw you could get a couple of cushions, lampshades and maybe a waste paper bin. I would get a rug in a neutral shade like grey or beige. A bit boring but it means you can change the other smaller items more frequently if you want to.

What colour are your walls. Do you have an armchair or a sofa?

Please may I recommend www.wayfair.co.uk/rugs/pdp/rosdorf-park-montes-hand-tufted-red-rug-rdpk1803.html ?

Other, more neutral, colours are available if you prefer but I have one in red and it's gorgeous and adds a blast of colour to my studio. With an 8" pile, I have to admit I love rolling about on it, sometimes with an audible "Oooo!".

I can also recommend these fleeces which you could get a colour in to match. www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01C7H47ZM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8

Hi there, thank you both. I do like different textures, I get colder so would probably opt for something warm. I love the feel of velvet…

I’d go for white bedding and walls, this rug and a blue throw for bed and sofa. Then I’d add cushions in the colours from the rug.
