Can't do hair bobbles

I know this is silly but is there a technique to putting a bobble in hair? My 1 year old girl has a lot of hair and it needs one but the little elastic just won't go over a bunch of strands and stay on. Are my fingers too big?

Are you twisting the elastic to make another hole to put the hair through then repeat till tight

Agree with pp, put the band on then twist it and put it back over the hair. Keep going until it's tight. I do this every day but it's hard to explain.. maybe try YouTube!

Thanks for the tips. Tried YouTube but embarrassed to admit the videos are too advanced for me to follow. 🤭 It's sort of like a mum quickly twists her hand and the bobble is on the head. I've got the elastic stretched over two fingers on my right hand, while my left holds a small bunch of her hair, then I try to put the elastic over the bunch and it all falls apart.

With a little one you may need to buy smaller bands.

But (I just put mine up to check my steps)

  1. put band in one hand (on wrist maybe) gather hair and hold in place with the hand with band. Use your other hand to pull band from wrist over hair. Don’t let go of hair
  2. Twist the band and pull hair through again.
  3. repeat until secure

(Assuming you are right handed, otherwise swap right for left)
Put all four fingers and your thumb of your right hand inside the bobble and spread them apart so your hand is like a cat's claw with the bobble fully extended around your knuckles.
Using your thumb and some of the fingers (in a normal motion), grab the middle of the chunk of hair you want to put the bobble on. Close you hand so you are holding the hair firmly in your palm, sticking out on both sides. (This is all one quick movement).
The bobble will start to contract itself, use your left hand to hook it and pull it forward over the tips of your fingers and off the hand completely. As you do this, use your right hand to pull the hair in the opposite direction so that the middle and loose end flick right through the bobble. Now the bobble is on the hair. It will be too loose and slide off the hair and fall out, so now you push it up to where you want it to end up (the quickest way to do that is to divide the loose hair into two chinks and pull them in opposite directions below the bobble so the widening pushes the bobble up against the head).
Using one hand to hold the hair and the other to hold the bobble, hook a (couple of) finger(s) through the bobble and twist it hard so that one side is tightly gripping the hair, and the rest is a loop over your right hand as large as possible, as in step one. The bobble will be an '8' sharp at this point. Pull the bobble off your hand with the hair pulled through it a second time. If still too loose, twist again and repeat a third time.

Two chunks, not chinks! That makes more sense...

Thanks to everyone for the advice. I never knew this was so hard. Will take some practice but with these steps I think I know what to try.
