Where do you keep your mobile phone when you are out and about?

I’ve dropped my mobile again and it’s smashed and irreparable. I’m always carrying it around in my hand or back pocket or leaving it on random surfaces and I have just been a bit careless.

I do have a zippable pocket in my bag I can keep it in but then I might miss a call or I put it in a coat pocket but not sure how safe that is. Where do you keep your mobile when you are out and about eg shopping/going from a to b?

99% of the time I wear jeans so my phone is in my back pocket (Just be careful going to the toilet, speaking from experience!)

TheBlueStocking · 05/02/2020 13:40

I keep mine in my handbag or my coat pocket. But I have a smart watch that tells me if it's ringing, so I don't worry about not hearing it.

TheBlueStocking · 05/02/2020 13:41

You can get a thick case for your next one so it's less likely to smash.

norealshepherds · 05/02/2020 13:43

I usually keep it in my handbag or my coat pocket

eggandonion · 05/02/2020 13:43

My phone is seven years old, in an otterbox. I drop it frequently!

AlCalavicci · 05/02/2020 13:49

I wear jeans or combats so in the front pocket . I have dropped my and took it swimming in the washing up bowl but I have a case and have been lucky and not damaged it

amusedbush · 05/02/2020 13:50

I keep it in my handbag or coat pocket (zipped up). I'm sure I'm going to jinx this now but I've had iPhones since they were first released and I've never dropped or smashed one.

Try not to carry it around in your hand, get a decent case and use a tempered glass screen protector.

I can always feel my phone vibrating in my bag, or I use my AirPods so it rings through those.

Unless you are the phone a friend on million-pound episode of Who Wants to be a Millionaire, so what? They'll call again, or you can call back. No drama.

You might also be on the loo when it rings, on another call or in conversation with a real person in front of you, or doing any of a hundred things that would make you unable to answer a call.

You are not in service to your phone, it is in service to you.

In my pocket of my trousers or jacket as I don't have a handbag.

WheresMyChocolate · 05/02/2020 13:54

Usually at home on the kitchen counter. Drives my friends and family potty but I just can't my head into mobile phone mode. I'm stuck on phones with dials and 3 digit numbers. Blush

WateryFowls · 05/02/2020 13:58

Pocket if I have them, in my bra if I just have my phone and keys. I have a very roomy bra!

Bloodybridget · 05/02/2020 14:25

In my bag, zipped up. I pretty much always carry a bag. It is harder to hear it ring, but that doesn't happen often anyway!

okiedokieme · 05/02/2020 14:26

Handbag or coat pocket (zipped). In summer I have a little zip up bag for when I don't want a full bag

TreatMyself · 05/02/2020 15:46

Yes I have got a case, screen protector and I am going to be really careful with this one and not take it in the bathroom or keep carrying it around.

in my pocket. (not the arse pocket which is the common look) But then it is a £10 Samsung so it is small and light, and copes with being dropped without smashing.

no need to have it permanently in your hand, how annoying would that be?

ShirleyPhallus · 05/02/2020 15:51

PLEASE be careful about not carrying it around in your jeans pocket or hand. I had my phone nicked directly out of my hand, broad daylight but two little shit bags

Better to have it in a bag or pocket than to have it stolen. Also don’t think I’ve answered my phone in about 6 years so all the better for missing those irritating calls!

BrandySours · 05/02/2020 19:50

I put mine in my pocket or bag, or carry it.

I've dropped mine countless times, but I have always had a tempered glass screen protector & back case on it

Is it a tempered glass screen protector you use? They can withstand a massive bump usually.
You can get shockproof cases as well, that absorb & displace any impact

KidCaneGoat · 05/02/2020 20:00

In my handbag. I’m not that bothered about whether I hear it ring or not. I don’t like phones always being out for some reason

MulticolourMophead · 05/02/2020 20:31

Mine is generally in my pocket. Which is why I hate most jeans, because the front pocket isn't good enough.

namechangingtime · 05/02/2020 20:50

Coat pocket during the colder months, hoodie pocket or baby's changing bag during the warmer months. I never get phone calls so it isn't a major worry if it's tucked away somewhere, and if I am expecting a phone call I just turn the noise on so I hear it ring.

TheChosenTwo · 05/02/2020 21:38

In my bag. If I miss a call or a message, I catch up at a time convenient to me.
I do have an Apple Watch so I’m alerted through that if I get calls or messages but I’m not a slave to my phone, it’s there to make my life easier and not for me to be constantly available 24/7.
Missing a call is rarely going to call a huge horrific inconvenience that can’t be rectified in half an hours time.

TheChosenTwo · 05/02/2020 21:39

One of the children in my class recently asked me what ring tone I had and I had to confess that I’d never ever heard my phone ring in about 5 years! Every phone I have is immediately set to silent, I hate the sound of the phone ringing, I find it strangely intrusive! I threw my house phone out for the same reason Grin

IloveJudgeJudy · 06/02/2020 10:28

I've had one of these on the back of my phone case for years. I always have a tempered glass cover.

Where do you keep your mobile phone when you are out and about?
TreatMyself · 06/02/2020 15:07

Now a phone ring holder is a good idea. I’ve never heard of them but just googled and played a video which shows how easy it is to carry around with one hand.

You need a loopy case. I've had one on my phone for about six years now and have never dropped it. Best case ever.
