Regular medication out of stock from manufacturer

This isn't an NHS bashing thread (nor a Brexit thread) but I am wondering how common place this is?

It's not a life saving / life dependant medication but it is daily and my 2yo DC will need it until adulthood.

Went to order the repeat today and its out of stock - from the actual manufacturer who has no idea when it will be back in stock?

Trying frantically to source an alternative.

Is this common? Never really had to deal with long term medication before having DC!

I am a but stumped really!

which one is it?
you need to talk to a pharmacist if it's temporary and if there are alternatives.
we had issues with naproxen last year. had to swap to (less effective) anti inflammatory meds until it was available again.

Very common issue I had to go to 4 pharmacies in turn last time to get my tablets which are epilepsy meds. Boots seem especially bad for not being able to fill prescriptions

I have spoken to consultant and GP to find an alternative, its a growth hormone.

We have had issues with getting Epi pens and Jext pens for the last few years but the alternative, Emerade, is easier to get hold of. The Pharmacist should be able to advise you on an alternative and then you can ask the doctor to prescribe that.

Crunchymum · 05/02/2020 12:30

@EnlightenedOwl the medication is unavailable at the source (manufacturer) so unless any local pharmacy is sitting on some of it and I have called my nearest 10 and none of them have it then it cannot be ordered in / found elsewhere... sadly!

Ring other pharmacists to get the last of their supply off their shelves for you. If you normally use Boots try Lloyds or local pharmacy.

I had this a year ago (different medicine but really no direct alternative). Took months to sort out and back and forth to DR.

Yes, ‘tis common for a wide range of reasons.

I had this with my contraceptive (sayana press) which has been out of stock since August. I managed to locate two rounds of it 60 miles away in the end. The pharmacist can't say when it will be back in stock either as manufacturers seem to give very little info out.

Good luck Flowers
