Hi all,

I am starting to plan a party for my daughter aged 6 and i'm wondering what theme to go for. Any advice on what themes are on trend this year? We've done princess and unicorn parties already, just wondering what else there is...thanks

Why does it have to be ‘on trend’ why not just something she likes/is into.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 04/02/2020 14:00

My DD wants a dinosaur party (she will be 7 next month)

TickledOnion · 04/02/2020 14:02

Why don’t you just ask her what she wants.

fellatthefirst · 04/02/2020 14:10

@TickledOnion I want it to be a surprise for her.

Fair enough. LOL dolls are still popular. Llamas, sloths and narwhals seem to have overtaken unicorns and pugs.
Or go for something less gendered like an underwater theme, a science theme (slime is still very big) or an art theme. These could lend themselves well to games as well as decor.

vikkimoog · 04/02/2020 14:16

why "on trend"?
Do you not know what your own daughter likes?

Gogolego · 04/02/2020 14:31

What does an not on trend 6 year olds party look like?

Are llamas unicorns and flamingos still on trend. May be use that as a theme and decorations. Also all of the glitter

SpinningBob · 04/02/2020 14:38

We are having a puppy themed party for dd turning 8. Last year was Harry Potter. Have also done unicorns, magic themed, and a no real theme just dress up in whatever their favourite dressing up costume was at the time

fellatthefirst · 04/02/2020 14:58

The word "On Trend" seems to have offended some people on here! Confused

I'm literally just asking for popular ideas and inspiration. Those that have given some idea's thanks very much. I might try a slime party, will be a whole load of mess but she will like that.

Thanks

Something like Pop Goes the Party? A recording studio party?

CarrotVan · 04/02/2020 15:32

Depends on the time of year and the type of party. For Y1/P2 at our school the popular parties were slime, craft, lego, indoor bouncy castles, soft play

For Y2/P3 lego, horse riding, bowling, laser quest - smaller parties but more £ per head (like lego centre, sea life, zoo)

This year for a 7th we're doing a very small group at a ££ play place and then a "picnic in the park" for a bigger group with games, cake and drinks (BYO picnic)

Underwater mermaid theme? Lots of shimmering streamers hanging down, mermaids, fish, octopus, starfish etc.

These pics are from Pinterest so might be more ott than you were thinking but give the idea of what I mean

What sort of thing does she enjoy?
DD1 was 6 in November, she has a mermaid themed craft party at our house.
They coloured in mermaid key rings, made mermaid crowns, decorated mermaid cookies, we did hair chalks and face paint and played ‘pin the seahorse on the mermaid’.

EnidButton · 04/02/2020 17:22

If you're on Pinterest fell, do a search for whatever theme you fancy. For the mermaid one for example there's literally hundreds of ideas for games, decorating, food, party bags etc. I was going to post more pics of games but there's too many to choose from!

Cupcakes/ ice cream.
DD has just been to a party where the DC created their own cupcakes ( decorated them) and they hired an ice cream maker and candy floss machine and had fun there!.
Sugar overloadGrin but all had fun.
Decorations were circus theme.

We are doing a gymnastics party for my DSD who will be 6 shortly. We are doing the food etc but I've gone for a pink theme as she kept changing her mind between LOL and Barbie - light and dark pink balloon wall, two rainbow donut stands on the main table and light and dark pink birthday boxes over bags for the party favours personalised with their name and 'Xs 6th birthday'. Found mini personalised love hearts online fairly cheap so they are all going in with some glow sticks, bouncy balls, barbie/lol tattoos, bubbles, some chocolate and a cupcake (DSD wants a cupcake birthday day which makes it easier than cutting a cake!) including food, its cost is £60 plus the gymnastic hire (£100).

Church hall, bouncy castle, old-fashioned party games and the ice-cream van calling. (The chimes were 'Happy Birthday'.)

MrsTerryPratchett · 04/02/2020 18:36

Llamas are out. Sloths are in.

Or, and this is important, celebrate the unique things that your DD likes. Because that says to her that you know and care about her.

DD never wanted girly stuff. We've had dinosaurs, arcade, Star Wars.

MrsTerryPratchett · 04/02/2020 18:37

Oh and Ninjago, that was a laugh.

ThatThereWoman · 04/02/2020 18:41

My dd wants a puppy party too. She wants to invite all of her friends' dogs, (but not all of the friends) and have an old fashioned games party at home. Pass the parcel and the like. I don't know if that's on trend but she wants that!

I'd rather throw money at it and go somewhere and let someone else do all the arranging.

mogtheexcellent · 04/02/2020 18:50

My daughter is having a dinosaur party. We are doing a mini excavation in the garden for10 friends. She had a big pirate party last year so keeping it small until she goes to junior school in 2 years. Her other idea was secret garden but she changed to dinosaur dig recently.

Twigletgirl27 · 04/02/2020 18:51

A friend's granddaughter had a tepee party. Decorated tepees from a hire company which the girls slept in. Looked lovely!

mogtheexcellent · 04/02/2020 18:52

Her best friend had a karaoke party. He had a rainbow cake and decs.

Stravapalava · 04/02/2020 19:02

Llamas and mermaids seem to be the in thing at the moment at school.
Book a Claire's party or Build a Bear?

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 04/02/2020 19:04

Sloths are popular with my DD. She's 10 though.
