Surprise tidying - house elf or child?

We've all had a virus and been a bit exhausted. Came downstairs this morning and DH said "You must be feeling better as you cleared out the cupboard." I had no idea what he was talking about so he sent me into the kitchen to have a look. Someone went through our main food cupboard (tall so 5 shelves worth), chucked out all the out of date stuff and stacked the remainder neatly according to type. Plus they emptied and reloaded the dishwasher, although we all do that as it's pretty quick and easy.

It wasn't DH or me. It happened some time after DH and I went to bed (very early because we are still getting over the virus). We have a 15 and a 12 yr old, but frankly unless one of them has a guilty conscience about something I'm leaning more towards the house elf theory. Grin

15 yr old is at home today, but I went out before he was awake and he was in the shower when I came home so I'll have to wait to ask him.

Is anything missing? Maybe a burglar with a good heart?

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 04/02/2020 14:31

Ha! Burglars have dark, dark hearts and messy habits. It was DS. He said he couldn't sleep because of his cold.

Maybe you sleep walked... I love a good cupboard clear out.

Patchworksack · 04/02/2020 14:35

Make sure you don't give your DS any items of clothing! What I would give for a house elf...

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 04/02/2020 14:38

DGS is quite helpful and pretty elfin, but as he's 2.5 and 3 feet high we don't let him do much apart from sweeping and putting things in bins.

Well done that house elf DC! Maybe tell him to be more reckless in his tin organising in future. Regimented tins always remind me of Sleeping With The Enemy Grin

Leave the basket of clean laundry and the ironing board out tonight Grin

Pavlova31 · 04/02/2020 14:59

Great idea comingup Grin
Let us know what happens Op Grin

There is always laundry sitting in the utility room, the iron is always sitting on the counter and the ironing board is just on a couple of hooks on the wall so who knows, it may happen. Grin

I would prefer him to get back to a proper sleep routine though, as he doesn't sleep well at the best of times and it's easily disrupted. His junior cert mocks start this week (roughly equivalent to GCSEs I think) so sleep is more important than spring cleaning. I'm considering infecting him with another virus in time for the Easter holidays though, in the hope that the whole house will get decluttered. Grin
