Abu Dhabi when pregnant. Yay or Nay?

Hi all, I am just over 14 weeks pregnant. I was suffering from Hyperemisis in the earlier weeks but this has finally eased off to a mild nausea.

We had been trying for DC2 for nearly 2 years and so were really ecstatic to finally have conceived (especially since DC1 was conceived on first cycle).

Before I found out I was pregnant, we planned to treat ourselves to a holiday to Mauritius in January but obviously cancelled those plans after our BFP in late November.

For other personal reasons, we haven’t been able to travel for the last 2 years and so were looking forward to it. But now we are pregnant, we would rather miss out on the holiday as a DC2 was far more important.

However, even so, after DC2s hopeful arrival in August, there’s no way I can fathom going abroad for a little while with a toddler and baby in tow (though I know many Mums do but I prefer not to). So I really do want to have at least a small holiday before the arrival of DC2.

Obviously, 2nd trimester is the best time to go which leaves me until end of april/may, however I would prefer to go earlier - in the 20 week mark - instead of toward 26 weeks.

I’ve had a look at europe and feel it won’t be warm enough for DC1 age 4 to go swimming in the pools/beach during march/april.
Long haul is out of the question so now I am considering Abu Dhabi as it about 7.5 hours on the flight.

It is very expensive though!

But it’s also the only mid-haul destination that I am interested in travelling to whilst 20 weeks and will have imo almost the perfect temperature (28 degrees) during this time.

I finally found a holiday package which is all inclusive for 2 adults and 1 child and flights and transfers included at approx £2200 for 5 nights.
Is that too much? Or reasonable for UAE?

Moreover, my sickness has just started to flare up a little so now I’m debating whether to even go as I would be miserable if I couldn’t enjoy myself (and also ruin DH and DC1s time too)

What do you ladies think?

Is it a price reasonable and should I hope for the best and book??

Your suggestions please! Thank you!

That's reasonable if it's all inclusive. What's the name of the hotel?

Aridane · 04/02/2020 10:51

It’s about right for all inclusive

Hotels are SUPERB

Where about are you going?

Aridane · 04/02/2020 10:52

I will be going for 8 days in September, half board, for £1,300. Travelling solo though so more expensive than per person if travelling as a couple

Are you married?

PS Also take a look at Kenwood Travel - they have good deals on Abu Dhabi. Plus Love Holidays has a price guarantee

KipperBang · 04/02/2020 11:13

Sounds good to me. Which hotel is it?

Aridane · 04/02/2020 11:16

I really like Abu Dhabi as a holiday destination. Went in December and am now going again in September this years.

I did post here about Abu Dhabi with some questions and got a few largely sneers responses Hmm

Mumsnet hates the UAE.

pinkstar01 · 04/02/2020 11:22

I would definitely go! It will be lovely and the hotel resorts there are amazing

AlexaT · 04/02/2020 11:34

Ok thanks for all of your response ladies! Appreciate it!

I looked at Intercontinental Abu Dhabi.
Dh is a real foodie (esp for seafood) and they have several restaurants which include a fresh seafood restaurant and the reviews are great!!

Yes we are married. Planning to take along our marriage cert JIC Hmm

What about my bouts of morning sickness? Should I just brave it and go??

I don’t know if travel insurance will only cover only my costs or the entire travelling party, if we had to cancel the entire holiday because something pregnancy-related happens to me before we travelled.

Does anyone else know please?

Intercontinental is lovely. In a great area near all the tourist spots.

You don't need your marriage certificate.

As for the morning sickness, I can't see it still being an issue in April/May, but if you're going to be sick you might as well be sick by the pool.

Call and check about the travel insurance.

sunshinekids · 04/02/2020 12:11

I had hyperemesis for my whole pregnancy, I still travelled, I was still sick but in new places (and laid in a different bed when not being sick), the change was good.

Currently in living Abu Dhabi and it's great.

I live in UAE and the Intercon is where I stay when I go to Abu Dhabi. It’s a lovely hotel.
