Host students and gas safety certification confusion

Hello

I'm planning to host foreign students next month and the company have asked for a gas safety certificate.

I thought if I had my boiler serviced I would be provided with a certificate as surely that's what they are testing. When I had my gas hob fitted I was given a certificate. However, I've contacted a plumber and they've said I need a landlord check which is £70 and they can provide a certificate. If I want my boiler serviced they can do that at the same time for £30.

Can anyone tell me if the plumber is correct and confirm the process before I proceed with this.....I didn't think I would be considered as a landlord which is why I'm confused.

Many thanks

Yes you need to get a landlord gas safety certificate which includes all gas appliances in the house. We host students in the summer and get the inspection annually (usually at the same time as a boiler service but I'm afraid it is not the same thing.) Usually costs about what you have been quoted.

As pp says, but in addition multiple gas appliances may be charged as extra to just the one
