Music to sign the wedding register to ?

Following on from the brilliant MN help with menu items, I'm back to pick your brains.

We're having a small, informal wedding at a lovely venue (not a church). Its second time around for both of us, and we are both more errr, mature. Just trying to set the scene for the informality really. We've realised that if we don't have some music while were doing the signing bit it there may be an awkward silence for the guests. We do have lots of songs that are very meaningful but we are both prone to welling up/blubbing Blush. Sooooo, we need to choose a tune or two that is suitable for the event and sufficiently upbeat to avoid make-up destroying melt downs. Please can you help ?

So far we've come up with (but undecided on)
Stevie Wonder - Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm yours (DP is not really a Stevie fan though)
Bruno Mars - Marry You
The Wannadees - You and Me Song
Frank Wilson - Do I love you, Indeed I do (Good bit of Northern Soul)
Pharrell Williams - Happy

Seal - Kiss From A Rose
The Verve - Lucky Man

CheerfulBunny · 03/02/2020 13:14

Ooo, have the Frank Wilson - it's so joyful! Or The Elgins - 'Heaven Must Have Sent You'?

Foslady · 03/02/2020 13:19

Do you have any hobbies in common? Me and ex met through motorsports so we had Jessica by the Allman Brothers....

Thesearmsofmine · 03/02/2020 13:22

L-O-V-E by Nat King Cole, upbeat and jazzy(we had this as we walked out)

We had Kissing You by Des’ree while we signed the register.

TheDogsMother · 03/02/2020 13:47

Ooh I'm going to have a listen to all these @crustycrab very good Smile

Share a love of classic cars, soul/motown/funk music. I am tempted by the Frank Wilson

That Des'ree track is beautiful but I'd never keep it together. Any more ideas ? Keep them coming Smile

Please go for Frank Wilson 🥰

Disfordarkchocolate · 03/02/2020 17:39

Bring me Sunshine. Everyone will smile, and probably sing along.

2020runner · 03/02/2020 17:41

Vanessa Charlton- a thousand miles was mine

TheDogsMother · 03/02/2020 20:45

@Disfordarkchocolate Aww what a lovely idea. I just YouTubed it and yes, I welled up at all the Eric and Ern memories !

That Vanessa Charlton track is beautiful. Another one I like which is current is Blossoms - The Keeper. Its a bit of a message from the man to the woman though.

I keep coming back to Frank though do need a couple of tracks ideally. If I could just get DP around to 'Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm yours !!

Pacabel's canon in D (minor?) or had you already discounted any classical stuff?

People at weddings will cry regardless of music won't they?

HippyChickMama · 03/02/2020 21:14

We had 'Forever' by Ben Harper, lyrics are perfect for a wedding.

Doilooklikeatourist · 03/02/2020 21:17

I do , i do. I do etc by ABBA
I.can hear the bells ( hairspray )
We had Love changes everything ( Andrew Lloyd Webber )

Proudpeacock · 03/02/2020 21:19

My first, my last, my everything by Barry White

8misskitty8 · 03/02/2020 21:27

My grandad sung for us while we signed the register. It was very special.
Andrea boccelli has sung it many times, grandad sang it better.

ScarlettBlaize · 03/02/2020 21:50

My god, who gives a toss? People will just be on their phones, looking at the football results or checking Whatsapp or whatever.

TheDogsMother · 03/02/2020 22:03

Classical music is a lovely option though might feel a touch formal for our event. Some other lovely ideas here too. The ABBA and Barry White tracks are great Grin

Scarlet, really ? Hmm

OP posts:
ScarlettBlaize · 03/02/2020 22:21

Yes, really. No one will notice or care what music is played. No one will have an emotional breakdown or be especially bored during those three minutes. Unless you're banning them from looking at their phones/speaking to each other/etc

FaithInfinity · 03/02/2020 22:25

Blimey Scarlet who on your chips?!

We had ‘We’ve only just begun’ by The Carpenters Smile but my Matron of honour sang it to a backing track. Other good ones I can think of include ‘What the world needs now’ by Burt Bacharach. I can think of others but they’re things like You raise me up and Love lift us up where we belong which will be too weepy for you!

doubleshotespresso · 03/02/2020 22:26

Signed, sealed, delivered by Stevie Wonder x

TheDogsMother · 03/02/2020 22:39

Righto Scarlet, I'l keep that in mind !

How lovely with the matron of honour singing.

We really are a bit rubbish with getting emotional. If we weren't so bad we would have probably had something like You're the best thing by Style Council

Thank you for all the lovely suggestions

Not very romantic but we're having Local Hero - DP is a massive NUFC fan. He doesn't know like, he has no idea that we need music!
