Best bottle of wine for £40?

It's a good friend's 40th soon. They live a long way away so I was thinking of sending them (hopefully) a very nice bottle of wine. Probably red.

Budget £40 but that needs to include p&p. Any suggestions?

Didn't want to leave this hanging. Not sure, but I would go to an Adnams wine store for the bottle and advice if I could.
I got a beautiful bottle for a friend's wedding. She had met her husband after university while grape picking in New Zealand, and he was a wine buyer, so the pressure was elevated! Got a New Zealand white from the year they had met from the Adnams choice. They cater to many budgets but the selection is neither huge nor too small.

I would go with something like a Barolo or an Amarone.
