Which dance for a child interested in musical theatre

Just after some advice from people who have children in musical theatre. My 8 year old ds would love to perform in theatre, he has attended stagecoach for a while and is a good actor (for his age) and has a very good singing voice. I think his dance needs to improve to match the other 2 and for that I think he needs to be taught in a proper dance school but I have no idea which style of dance would suit him best. I don’t think he would like ballet although I understand that he may have to give it a go at some point. Which dance class should I look for as a starting point?

Ballet or modern/jazz

Ballet is the foundation for everything else. If he’s really not into it, then Jazz or Modern but if he’s serious about MT then a good grounding in Ballet will be needed. Ideally he should be doing Ballet and Modern or Jazz and perhaps a Tap class too.

I would say ballet is the basis for all dance, however modern, contemporary or jazz would all help.

My nephew is similar. He does contemporary.

Thanks all, I will see if I can find him a modern/ jazz class and then add on ballet once he has settled. It’s hard finding somewhere with other boys round where we live.
