What coffee do you drink?

I’ve never previously been a coffee drinker but over the last few months I seem to have developed a worrying Starbucks dependence. My drink of choice is a white chocolate mocha (I’m aware that coffee purists will be horrified by this and I realise it’s barely more than hot milk and syrup with a dribble of coffee in it 😁)

Anyway, I’m slightly concerned by how much money I’m spending in Starbucks, so I’m wondering about trying some coffee I can make myself. I’m currently drinking a Nestle Vanilla Latte which surprisingly isn’t entirely horrible.

What do you drink - from coffee shops or made at home?

I'm a coffee purist. I only drink it unadulterated - black, no sugar, either in espresso or Americano form.

I like the purple nespresso capsules when I'm home. Lavazza coffee is also usually pretty good.

ShivD · 30/01/2020 15:42

Red lavazza beans, my dad gave me his old bean to cup machine and it makes a lovely coffee.

pollyannaperspective · 30/01/2020 15:42

Illy coffee beans at home, rarely use retail coffee shops but think Costa is best of a mediocre bunch - Americano, no milk or sugar.

Nescafé azera at home with a dash of milk. I like costa or Nero when I’m out and about. Starbucks really is coffee for people who don’t like coffee!

ImportantWater · 30/01/2020 15:47

I have Lazy Sunday from Taylors of Harrogate, make it in a mini cafetiere.

I drink Colombian ground coffee from Sainsbury's, made in an individual filter.

Agree with a PP, McDonald's coffee is actually surprisingly good.

Bloodybridget · 30/01/2020 15:53

Breakfast, Lavazza, black, made with my Aeropress. Out, definitely not Starbucks or Costa. Pret isn't bad. I have a favourite local independent place. I'll have either a black Americano or a cappuccino with no chocolate.

PhantomErik · 30/01/2020 15:54

Favourite instant is Millicano

Occasional milky coffee made with Mellow Birds.

Favourite ground coffee is Lava Java.

saraclara · 30/01/2020 15:55

Lavazza Oro in my Aeropress.
I experiment with different dark roasts when I use a cafetiere. Aldi's is excellent for a fraction of the price of others. Though I do like working my way through Waitrose speciality roasts from different countries.
Every Taylor's coffee I've tried has been disappointing

Indecisivelurcher · 30/01/2020 15:58

Percol coffee, because its packaging is plastic free! Black, and through a drip filter 😍

Waxonwaxoff0 · 30/01/2020 15:59

I'm not a coffee purist, some of you would be disgusted at me. I drink vanilla lattes, you can buy the syrups in tesco and I just swirl it into hot milk with coffee.

MyCatScaresDogs · 30/01/2020 16:02

Out and about, I prefer a couple of local independents’ coffee, then Caffè Nero, then Costa. Not a fan of Starbucks - it tastes “thin” to me and too acidic. I usually drink milky coffee, normally latte.

At home, I make it in a cafetière using ground coffee - Illy decaf is excellent if you choose decaf. I warm about a third of a mug of milk in the microwave, add coffee and a sugar. I’ve tried a moka pot before but didn’t get on with it. No room for a coffee machine in our kitchen!

You might like to try those syrups (Monin) if you like flavoured coffee?

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 30/01/2020 16:04

I buy the Sanfrancisco Bay Organic beans by the kilo in Costco, they are the nicest beans I ever bought
I drink it black, make it in a stove top pot, or in a french press, or I have a vacuum percolator doodah which is good fun to watch

Instant I tend to use Douwe Egberts atm....again costco are selling the very large jars for around a tenner.

I

Toddlerteaplease · 30/01/2020 16:06

I live in Caffè Nero on my day off, but when I'm working I use Azera coffee with a bit of boiling water and milk. Not as nice as costa from work. But much cheaper. My friend do gave me a Tassimo. But the UHT milk pods taste horrible so I have it to my parents!

Toddlerteaplease · 30/01/2020 16:08

McDonald coffee is nice. Don't like Starbucks at all. Grumpy mule is also really good.

Toddlerteaplease · 30/01/2020 16:11

I used to put a Tipples sachet in my coffee. They are lovely bit difficult to get hold of.

MotherHeggy · 30/01/2020 16:16

Make a hot chocolate with a bit of any old coffee powder added 🤷 I steal some of my husbands azera something or other to add to my hot chocolate if I feel like I need a caffeine boost as I can't stand the stuff generally

That sounds lovely,I'll try that later-I've got some awful Tesco own brand coffee that's far to strong for me,so I keep it for people that come round.

I want a nice medium strength coffee but can't find anything decent.

Parsley65 · 30/01/2020 16:24

Can't go wrong with Nescafe Gold Blend Wink

At home I like Lavazza filter decaf. Out I like Costa or Pret A Manger decaf Americano.

If you like caffeine in your coffee my DH drinks the Pret filter coffee which is just 99p a cup and which is so similar to their Americano that only an expert could taste the difference. In addition if you bring your own cup Pret give a 50p discount so a cup of filter coffee is just 49p. Our student son alerted us to this massive bargain. It makes me wish I could tolerate caffeine.

Chrissyho · 30/01/2020 16:31

I drink 3-4 espressos a day. No other coffee exists for me.

Chrissyho · 30/01/2020 16:32

@Wearywithteens - M&S capsules are amazing too!!! They have different selctions but I prefer Italian and Classic. You should try.

BronteSisters · 30/01/2020 16:36

I love freshly brewed coffee BUT once I discovered Nescafé Azera Intenso I realised that a coffee snob I am not. I bloody love it. I'll take that particular instant over many fresh brews any day now.

And I do love a nice choccy mocha treat now and then when out an about. Hate normal Hot Chocolate.

ClientQueen · 30/01/2020 16:46

anything from using my clever dripper at home right through to a java chip Frappuccino. I'm not picky
