DD 16 months wont drink milk, often refuses to eat

My DD will eat breakfast very happily but the rest of the day pretty much all she wants is to breastfeed. This happens on and off, so sometimes she will eat loads, but then goes two or three days without wanting to. She will refuse her favourites at that time, and anything else we offer.

She refuses to drink formula out of a cup or bottle or sippy cup or any type of cup or bottle.

I don't really want to breastfeed anymore, but don't mind continuing for now as I can't see how I could possibly get her off it anyway. She still feeds to sleep for her nap and at bedtime.

What should I do?

Have you tried water as opposed to formula? Just to get her used to a cup?

Yes, she will drink plenty of water from a cup.

At 16 months, you could give cow's (or a dairy-free alternative) milk, it doesn't need to be formula. As long as you're giving a comprehensive multivitamin too, she's not underweight and still growing/developing normally I don't think you need to worry.

I dropped all but night feeds first. Got out of the house as much as possible, doing lots to tire out my dd so she was so tired, she fell asleep without needing to be fed to sleep - generally in the pushchair, on the bus or in the car.

I stopped breastfeeding completely at 18.5 months, dd cried a lot the first night, asked for it the second night and whinged a bit when I said no, the third night she didn't bat an eyelid at having no breastmilk and she hasn't had it since.
