It's my 25th wedding anniversary next August and we're thinking of going to Iceland for a few days to go whale watching as it's something I've always longed to do.
We'll be taking our 3 DC with us - youngest would be 9.

I've been looking at Akureyri for the whale watching as it's supposed to have calmer water which is better for the children (and me!)

Has anyone any experience of it? Any tips or recommendations? Is there anything else to see it do whilst in Iceland with children?

TIA

lissie123 - when we went whale watching (not in Iceland) we hired some ReliefBand digital anti nausea bands. I get travel sick a lot - cars, planes, boats, etc but was really keeping to go whale watching. They really did help - well I wasn't sick, or even nauseous anyway.

I also followed the other guidelines - small light breakfast, some plan snacks such as crackers, staying outside, if it got a bit rough keeping my eyes on the horizon for a while, etc. And we chose a company that used an eco/bio fuel which was less smelly than traditional diesel and was non smoking.

I also took normal travel sickness medication - one the night before and one an hour or so before we went on the boat. The ones not marketed as non-drowsy seem to work best in my experience.

I went from Reykjavik and saw three Minke whales, but you have a chance of seeing humpbacks from Akureyri, which I'll definitely do next time I go!
