Stubbed my toe, opened the door and the bottom ran over the top of my big toe, very sore. Took my tights off and there was a lot of blood, cleaned it all up and my nail has a big split in it. Couldnt face pulling off the hanging bit because its so far down the nail and still very sore, so just put a plaster over it and trying to ignore the throbbing. Will the nail die and fall off?

Oh god. You poor thing. I felt pain just reading this. Yes you'll probably lose it. Hopefully by the time it's warm enough for summer shoes it'll be better.

Having wrecked mine running before now, they grow frustratingly slowly. Sad

A new nail might grow underneath before it falls off - that's quite common. Hope it stops hurting soon, OP.

Now, is it just split? If so, how far down? Is it black/bruised? My big toenail split to halfway down without bruising and I just let it grow out- took months, but I never lost the nail. I kept it covered at all times with a plaster with half a cotton wool pad covering the top and bottom adhesive strips to prevent it bonding to the nail in any way and slept in a sock. Had to be so careful, but didn't lose it.

Its split to about half way down, maybe slightly further. Will keep a plaster and sock on and hope that it just grows out!

I lost my toenail last year and it’s now fully grown back. Had to hide my toe all summer and on holiday.

I damaged a toenail in September last year. It fell off late November but now looks relatively normal. If you look closely you can see a ridge, not sure if that will grow out or not but it looks ok

I did the same thing! It was fascinating watching it turn green then fall off. I love gore though so I’m probably not making you feel any better! It took months to fall off and grew back really quick don’t worry ☺️
