What to wear to a 70s themed party

Help! I’m going to a full-on 1970S themed party tonight and have no clue what to wear.

Lots of people have made a huge effort. Fancy dress really isn’t my thing. I’m a size 20 so it’s hard to pick up something in a charity shop. I have no flares or maxi dresses currently in my wardrobe....

Any bright ideas so I don’t look like a kill-joy?

if you could find a big pair of glasses in the shape of stars (ones like these) and some peace-sign earrings then you could wear a bright coloured dress? it might be hard if the party is tonight though

Have you got time to shop or do you need to cobble together from your wardrobe? What kind of hair do you have? Can you do it in Farah Fawcett flicks? Blue eyeshadow?

What do you have available?

Platform shoes or knee length boots. Oxford bag trousers. Cheesecloth shirts. Smocks. Ponchos. Waistcoats.

At a push you could go for double denim (it’s more 80s but you’ll probably get away with it). If not, maybe jeans, boots and a geometric top/jumper? You could add big glasses and bold jewellery and makeup. Or wear something floral and say you’re a hippie?

Thank you! I may have a pinafore dress I can find somewhere. If not, I’ve accepted that I’m just going to need to go in a little black dress and aim to look fabulous as I am!
