I'm 41. I've been qualified as a nurse for 8 years, currently working in A&E. I'm feeling absolutely ground-down and like I want out.
I'm going in circles thinking about what I want to do. I'm not in a big city and community based/treatment room type jobs (which i think I'd possibly like more) are few and far between. I'm on a couple of waiting lists but nothing has come of it as yet.
Before nursing I did a lot of admin/civil service type jobs and worked as a researcher for a charity for a while, organising events, running focus groups and things.
I have a degree in Geography and a MSc in Environmental Management from nearly 20 years ago - haven't done anything related to it for at least 12 years. So although I'm still interested in the field my skills are totally out of date.
I'm quite interested in getting back into some kind of research (not necessarily clinical) but not sure how to go about it. I need to be earning in some capacity, although i already work part time so potentially have time to study.
Youngest will start P1 in september so im trying to get a plan in place for then...
Has anyone successfully got out of nursing? Or updated old skills and gone back to an old career after a long time out?
This is just a thought dump really- help me mumsnet!
