How much do you pay for your phone?

Looking to upgrade to a new contract phone. Not bothered about having the latest models but some of the contracts are £50+. I pay about £18 atm. Is there a better way to not end up paying a fortune. Buy a handset and get sim only contract?

I just got new iPhone 11 with sky - 128GB phone, 3GB data as I'm always on WiFi. £34 a month. I got 15GB free data as a SKY VIP (Platinum). I'm happy with it particularly their data rollover every month.

Buying outright is almost always the cheaper option. What handset are you looking at?
Work out handset cost, plus likely sim cost over 24 months for cost comparison.

Sim free with giff gaff/plusnet/tesco etc all much cheaper than the main network deals as well.

e.g. My phone was £399, and I pay £10 a month with giff gaff. Total cost over 24 months is £639. Monthly comparable cost

Equivalent best offer deal I could find at the time was around £35 a month, for handset and everything included. Total cost over 24 months is £840.

£7.50 with Talk Mobile
dd is £7.50 with Giff Gaff

I pay £30 a month for an iPhone 6s through mobile phones direct but i claim cash back which over the year reduces it by £10 a month. I get loads of data for that.

Sorry, that should read...

I’d recommend envirophone to buy a (second hand) phone outright. We’ve had 3 and they’ve been excellent quality, nicely packaged, and cheaper, with no problems. No point in paying premium prices for a new one!

Then my family are on sky and we pay £20 for 3 phones with 8Gb data- their deals are always changing though

Snowy111 · 22/01/2020 19:41

£20 is the combined price

£10 a month, unlimited minutes and texts, 12gb data. Plusnet mobile, i get a little extra data than standard tariffs as i am a broadband customer too.
I buy the phone outright roughly every 3 years.

I've just signed up to a 2 year contract with Utility Warehouse. iPhone 8 Plus 128gb handset. I get 2.5gb a month, unlimited minutes and texts - £39 a month I think. I'm always on WiFi so don't use much data.

I use their cashback card so get money directly off my bill from there. It's generally about £30 a month which I figure nearly covers my phone bill!

Sim only, £20.5 a month, unlimited calls, texts data and tethering.
