So proud of myself - managed my smear

I have huge issues around smear tests etc due to trauma , I’ve previously cancelled them/ignored the letters altogether . Had one done a few years with a very kind GP but didn’t go again until December - had irregular bleeding and got worried ... that appointment turned out impossible/too painful so postponed until today .

GP was very understanding re difficulties last time and gave me two diazepam, and vaginal moisturiser to try and make things easier and to get it done this time ... if not was going to send me off to hospital for gas and air or anaesthetic .

So had the appointment this morning, diazepam worked like magic . Still very painful, I ended up in tears and difficult (I have a tilted womb, so had to do the fits under bum thing) but the lovely nurse managed in the end thankfully . All being well that’s me done for three years .

Very relieved that it’s all done and over with now, still cramping and bleeding a bit but I’m so proud of myself . I also got the good news that I’ve managed to lose a stone in weight since New Year’s Day, so feel a bit like celebrating all round ... but probably tomorrow, once the diazepam’s worn off !!

Just felt like posting a success story, on the TV etc they always say how easy it is, it’s not painful etc and I’m sure it isn’t for most women, but for some of us it’s very, very difficult and they never mention that really in TV adverts (etc) ... but even with lots of difficulties etc with the right support/care (and some lovely diazepam!) it’s not impossible , Flowers

Well done!

Faceicle · 22/01/2020 16:30

That's brilliant. I hate mine, each one gets worse not better. You have done amazingly well. Be proud of yourself.

FaithInfinity · 22/01/2020 16:42

That’s brilliant, hooray for lovely GPs finding a way to do it for you.

Well doneB! Glad you found a way to get it done.

I am just the same and wish I had your GP! I have a hysteroscopy scheduled for Friday (I have cancelled and rescheduled it many times over). Can you tell me how the Diazepam helped?

KatyMac · 22/01/2020 18:16

Oh brilliant! Well done you xx

I had to have an extra one on Monday and honestly I didn't know he was down there - such a contrast for the last one which left me in pain and bleeding for days

Now could you just fix my next dental appt?

FuckKnowsMate · 22/01/2020 18:18

Well done OP. That’s great. I have an app tomorrow to get some cin2 cells removed, really not looking forward to it but your post has given me some encouragement Grin

morningtown · 23/01/2020 10:33

Thank you all so much ☺️

fuckknows good luck with the appointment Flowers, hopefully it’s done soon !

bestbefore it just took any anxiety away, made me feel slightly drunk/very sleepy . The nurse was aware I’d been given it so she wasn’t surprised - being drunk as it were I talked more than usual ... and happily remarked that her job was like caving/ potholing ...

The only downside is that I spent much of yesterday flopped on the sofa and still feel a bit hungover this morning, but so relieved it’s done .

Good woman. Well done you!

PixieDustt · 23/01/2020 10:46

I had mine done on Monday too and they're bloody uncomfortable.
Hope you're feeling better now.
4-6 week wait on results in my area 😬

Handbag101 · 23/01/2020 11:20

Well done OP. Feel proud of yourself and treat yourself to something nice if you can. I'm exactly the same. Had one just after Christmas and mine took ages and she tried three times. Eventually she got there and all results came back clear. That's me done for another three years....

Primrose89 · 23/01/2020 11:25

That's brilliant OP, really well done! 😁

Roselilly36 · 23/01/2020 11:26

Yay! Well done, I got myself worked up about having mine, it was done and over before I knew it.

Sicario · 23/01/2020 11:33

HUGE round of applause! I think every woman should be given a medal for attending her smear. It's definitely not on anyone's favourite activity list.
