I have huge issues around smear tests etc due to trauma , I’ve previously cancelled them/ignored the letters altogether . Had one done a few years with a very kind GP but didn’t go again until December - had irregular bleeding and got worried ... that appointment turned out impossible/too painful so postponed until today .
GP was very understanding re difficulties last time and gave me two diazepam, and vaginal moisturiser to try and make things easier and to get it done this time ... if not was going to send me off to hospital for gas and air or anaesthetic .
So had the appointment this morning, diazepam worked like magic . Still very painful, I ended up in tears and difficult (I have a tilted womb, so had to do the fits under bum thing) but the lovely nurse managed in the end thankfully . All being well that’s me done for three years .
Very relieved that it’s all done and over with now, still cramping and bleeding a bit but I’m so proud of myself . I also got the good news that I’ve managed to lose a stone in weight since New Year’s Day, so feel a bit like celebrating all round ... but probably tomorrow, once the diazepam’s worn off !!
Just felt like posting a success story, on the TV etc they always say how easy it is, it’s not painful etc and I’m sure it isn’t for most women, but for some of us it’s very, very difficult and they never mention that really in TV adverts (etc) ... but even with lots of difficulties etc with the right support/care (and some lovely diazepam!) it’s not impossible ,
