Chrome - what has happened to search?

I may have woken up in a different dimension but something really odd seems to have happened to my chrome browser overnight. When I search for anything I am now bringing up just pages of ads and then sponsored pages and not actual results - this is when it is on "all" which is what I normally use. Has there been a formatting update? Thanks

I wondered this - I think there are normal results on there, but they now all look like sponsored results. It's annoying.

Google has launched a new type of search results.

There have always been sponsored ads at the top - they just look different now. They're also using website favicons more.

I noticed this too and was bloody annoyed. Wtf.

I'm getting the opposite of that

I just test searched New York, I'd expect the first few results to be selling plane tickets and hotels... but my first page of results has no sponsored content at all as far as I can see? or is it just not marked as such?

Actually I think the New York results are better now. When I search for 'New York' I'm looking for info about the city and state. If I want flights then I search for 'New York flights'.
