My food order came today and face wipes was out of stock so they gave me a packet of nappies as a substitute, real helpful

LOL how dirty did they think your face was?

Not exactly strange but years ago had ordered a dozen bottles of cheapish but not very cheap wine for a party. Instead I received ONE exceedingly expensive bottle of wine that was roughly the value of all the cheaper ones put together

Loneranger14 · 15/01/2020 22:12

@listsandbudgets they must of thought i had been talking a lot of s**t.
WOW lucky you I'm never that lucky.

Taddda · 15/01/2020 22:15

Ordered a Notepad, got a pack of Rizla-

danadas · 15/01/2020 22:18

I ordered 12 Easter eggs from Iceland.

They delivered 12 courgettes.

Presume they thought I needed to calm the f'k down on sugar!

They were for my team in work, I didn't have time to go and get others so each person got a courgette on their desk the next morning. I think it was more popular than chocolate!

Caramel78 · 15/01/2020 22:19

I ordered beef steaks and they substituted them for beef tomatoes

hotstepper4 · 15/01/2020 22:21

I ordered a '9' candle for my dss10's 9th birthday cake, and they substituted it for an '8' candle. Great, thanks, that helps so much..

Impatientwino · 15/01/2020 22:22

Instead of breaded fish they sent Ben and Jerry's phish food ice cream. They must have been taking the piss because obviously they must have had other types of breaded fish or even non breaded fish available!

Kids were pleased though!

dontletmedowngently · 15/01/2020 22:23

Ordered frozen lemon & lime slices thinking they’d be great for drinks during the summer.

Received frozen french fries. G&T with a chip, anyone?

Loneranger14 · 15/01/2020 22:24

I assume some of the wilder substitutions must be when the substitutions are a few steps away from the original? Eg: Face wipes are substituted by baby wipes, only there are no baby wipes so they’re substituted for the baby wipes substitute which is nappies? But even if that’s the case I always wonder how the crazier substitutions manage to get past the workers, surely there should be an element of common sense?

DownWhichOfLate · 15/01/2020 22:25

Ordered a pregnancy test, received some ovulation tests.

JordanCatalano4Eva · 15/01/2020 22:25

Ordered dog food they sent a bag of sugar.

Woeisme99 · 15/01/2020 22:26

Not crazy but really unhelpful, ordered size 3 nappies they subbed them for size 1. Like a baby shrinks. That was the last straw for me and Asda, fuck wits.

GoBackToPartyCity · 15/01/2020 22:28

Ordered an avocado, got a melon.

shinynewapple2020 · 15/01/2020 22:28

Can I guess that these are all Sainsbury's?

FortyFacedFuckers · 15/01/2020 22:28

I ordered peaches & got an apple turnover cake!

Elouera · 15/01/2020 22:29

OMG! These are great. I ordered Chinese frozen spring rolls but got a whole, Indian gourd vegetable once! I had to google what on earth is was and how to cook it, as had no idea what this enormous, green thing was!!! I've heard of someone ordering condoms but got a pregnancy test instead. lol.
I'd love to be able to add a 2nd option when ordered online. Does anyone know- is the substitution at the discretion of the person picking, or do they get a suggested substitution on their computer from the system???

4piecesofCheeseontoast · 15/01/2020 22:30

I ordered a viennetta and got fish fingers 🤔

Loneranger14 · 15/01/2020 22:36

@elouera I'm not sure if it's the person who's picking your food that decides, or if it comes up on there handheld computer thing.
I'm new to online shopping and didn't even know about substitutes until i read the email confirming my delivery time and at the bottom it said face wipes out of stock, you will be offered a suitable substitute, if no substitute is available you will be reimbursed.
Funny how they thing nappies is a suitable substitute for face wipes.

A friend of mine had corned beef substituted for lobster one Christmas...

slipperywhensparticus · 15/01/2020 22:39

Unless you choose your subs they get suggested ones off the computer these can be a little off piste I stopped dot com shopping when my friend no longer worked there she would make sure I got the right size nappies and cat food not dog food etc

I did have someone elses shopping drop into mine on the van he told me to keep it

ShitUsername · 15/01/2020 22:39

Ordered milk got fruit scones Hmm

GenghisCalm · 15/01/2020 22:41

In one order I wanted toothpaste and ended up with Crunchy Nut cornflakes and then got a pack of biscuits and a punnet of Strawberries instead of a cheese cake Confused

tabbycat985 · 15/01/2020 22:41

I always find it strange when I have something Quorn or Linda McCartney subbed for their meat equivalent.
My favourite sub was for a single sprinkle donut & a 12 pack arrived instead😆
