HP InstaInk - anyone bought a printer with one of these packages?

Need to replace printer and see Argos have HP printers with 12 month ink supply included - HP do an InstaInk scheme whereby you pay a monthly amount depending on printing requirements. Think this would work well for us and be more economical than the cost of cartridges for existing printer but curious as to whether anyone has done this and, in reality, is it as seamless a service as they say it is?!

Thanks

I have had it for a couple of years and never been short of ink. The cartridges always arrive in good time because your printer communicates with HP's systems. I like it because I don't need to remember to buy printer ink, it just comes. And generally I am not a fan of "smart" stuff like this, I prefer old tech! So yes I do recommend.

Sounds brilliant @zasknbg, thanks for recommending. I didn’t even know there was such a thing until two days ago!

We’ve had it 3 years now and honestly the best bloody thing ever. Never run out of ink, 50 pages a month, all for £1.99 a month. Bargain. Kids print stuff out whenever they want and homework gets printed, my paperwork. We hardly ever go over the threshold of 50 pages but if we ever do, it’s only 50p or something. Really really recommend it. You’ll get 3 months free if you buy from Argos on certain models and no limit of pages to print, so go crazy for 3 months!

Yes! I use it too. Just the basic one (£1.99 a month, I think) and I never run out. It just seems to work really well. A nice thing is that the ink arrives with a postage-free envelope for you to post back the old cartridges for recycling.

Love it.

Never run out of ink.
Don't have to remember to buy it.
You can set the level of usage appropriate to your family needs.
Both DCs are doing mocks this month so printing off lots of past exam papers etc, so have just increased my allowance for this month, and can put it back down to my normal package next month.

Thoroughly recommend.

Yes, it's great - be careful though. Dh1 is a student teacher and massively underestimated how much printing he would do - it's not unlimited pages during the free trial, they have a "fair use" limit of 300 pages and he smashed it (600 pages in a month Shock) so we were billed £22.

All other months have been fine. We pay £3.99 a month and when we use less it rolls over.

sleepyhead · 15/01/2020 13:04

Oh, and to be fair dh's unexpected bill was not unexpected - they'd sent him warning emails but he'd not bothered to read them properly Hmm. We could easily have upped our page limit for that month and it would have been more like a tenner.

Blownaway22 · 15/01/2020 14:13

No idea how I missed this before now but it does sound great. Like the fact that you can increase your usage for a month or two if you need to. Ouch re the bill @sleepyhead! Thanks for all the feedback.
