Does anyone remember this story in the news from years ago -pregnant woman in a coma

I was just thinking of it today and was wondering if she ever woke up. Have googled and can’t find anything.

A woman who I believe lived down south, definitely in England was attacked in a village/town in the day while walking. Possibly while pushing her toddler. She was in a coma following the attack for months and had been pregnant at the time of the attack and gave birth while still in a coma.

It must have been at least 15 years ago. I don’t remember reading if she ever woke up.

Hiya, was it Abigail? amp.theguardian.com/uk/2005/apr/22/ukcrime.davidpallister

This was in the village where I grew up. Yes, she did wake up and she is still living in the village as far as I know, with her children.

Do you mean Abigail Witchalls?

ginandgingers92 · 14/01/2020 20:27

Thank you. Yes, that’s her. I couldn’t remember her name.

It’s great that she woke up but sad that it took 4 years to regain her speech and is still paralysed. What a devastating attack.

I'd completley forgotten about this story, but it was big news story at the time.

marcopront · 14/01/2020 20:46

From reading the two articles posted Abigail wasn't in a coma though.

ginandgingers92 · 14/01/2020 20:56

I'm pretty sure they put her in an induced coma for a time

VivaLeBeaver · 14/01/2020 21:00

I wonder if I’m getting her muddled up with someone else then and kind of merging 2 people together. Or maybe I’m just misremembering it.

I seem to remember someone who was in a coma for months after the attack and was unconscious when she gave birth.

Are you perhaps thinking of the woman who was raped by a care worker on her ward while in a long term coma, and they only figured out the repeated abuse because she became pregnant? I've no idea of that outcome and obviously her identity was protected.

VivaLeBeaver · 14/01/2020 21:27

No, I remember the care worker rapist one and I’m not thinking of that.

I think it is the Abigail case I’m thinking of, it’s just so long ago I’ve got muddled and thought she was in a coma for ages afterwards.
