I have a week old baby I'm breastfeeding. I previously breastfeed my older child for two years, but at the first few months I really suffered from pain at each feed from raw/ bleeding nipples. I put this down to some crap advice on feeding positions and the shove him on approach, but thought this time I'd do ok. Took a extremely long time to heal.
I have unfortunately had the same issue this time with getting damaged nipples despite applying lanolin cream after each feed, soft feeding bra.
My "best" boob on the left is healed and no pain after some initial bleeding/ grazing on the first day of feeding. Baby feeds well, no pain at all. Opens wide. The right side is worse now than at the start. Absolute agony during a feed and a constant sore pain all day. It looks like a blood blister on my nipple. At times it has been a scab which lifts partly off from feeding. I did wonder if I may also have some blocked milk ducts and been pressing/ feeling on during a feed to check, but the pain seems to radiating from the nipple unless some ducts right there are affected?
DC was checked for tongue tie at birth and I don't think it's that. Seemingly no neck issues with turning head. I've tried rugby hold and it's worse pain so feeding cradle / standard position. I've been using the gel pads you can get to stick on the inside of your bra. They help prevent the grazed nipple rubbing on my bra. I don't leak so don't use absorbent breast pads.
Any ideas on how to heal and what I can try. The evening cluster feeds are dreadful
I can't express I can't get anything.
