Walking holiday in sun w/nice hotel for rest days

Hi,

I’m looking for a walking holiday in July this year for 1 week. Perhaps Spain, Portugal Italy. Several hours walking per day with stunning scenery and a decent hotel / resort to have 2-3 rest days in (perhaps access to an excursion on one of these days). I’ve never booked anything like this before (it’s actually for my husbands 50th) and could do with any tips / ideas where to start?!

😊 thank you

Have a look at Exodus holidays.

Colletts are very good - excellent customer service and a good selection of different holidays

Do you want to long distance walk from place to place (and if so, will you carry everything or would you rather pay someone who will move your bags for you)? Or a base where you can go walking?
How fit are you?

VivaLeBeaver · 11/01/2020 07:34

I was going to say Madeira. I’ve never been but am currently reading up on all the Levarda walks which look good.

I think a base that we return to each day would be nice , Don’t fancy carrying everything every day. We are fit - in UK can manage 20 per day hikes. Thanks

I love the walking in Menorca.
There is a round the island walk

I haven’t used these people as I prefer to plan my own walks and I chose walks I can get to easily on public transport .
I also went sea kayaking for the first time which was amazing .
I stayed at Port Bleu S’Algar all inclusive as it’s very quiet and has a lovely beach bar

There's also a coastal path around Gozo that's designed to be done in 4 or 5 days. Google is your friend.

However I'm not sure the Mediterranean countries are the best choice for a walking holiday in July due to the heat.

Try looking at the Ramblers Holidays website. Even if you don't want to do a group holiday, it's great for inspiration.

I agree with a previous poster though who said July may be rather hot for the countries you've mentioned. Unless you go high - perhaps the Italian Alps for example?

Riu Palace Madeira. Stunning hotel and views. Wonderful staff. Free shuttle bus into Funchal so you can do the toboggan run and the cable car to the gardens. Levada walks all over the island of varying difficulty.

Sardinia? Hot. Very hot. But beautiful walking.
