Do you remember what gifts you were given for your 13th birthday?

I'm just curious really. Dd1 turns 13 in a fortnight & has a "wish list" that I will buy gifts from but none are keepsake type things.

I can't remember what I was given for mine! Can you?

I think mine was a laptop

Nothing keepsake type- didn't get anything like that until I turned 16/18

happypotamus · 10/01/2020 17:49

No.
However, DH is about to turn 40, and his mum brought up in conversation the other day that she bets he doesn't know where the keepsafe type thing she gave him for his 13th is. She said this in a tone that meant he should know and she is disappointed that he doesn't still display it. I don't think most 13 year old boys appreciate keepsafe items (some 13 year old girls might appreciate a piece of jewellery that they will keep)

No but my DD got a Pandora bracelet and charm from her Dad for hers.

One of the things I got was a gold brooch from my mum which had '13' on it and I think a gold bow underneath. TBH, I think I only wore it once if that!
Gold earrings, a ring, bracelet or a pendant are better options that she could wear in the future too. Not something with a dolphin on, a character etc, but something she'd also wear when older.

TheMemoryLingers · 10/01/2020 17:55

Two LPs that I wanted and an anorak.

LoveAGoodToddlerTantrum · 10/01/2020 17:57

I didn't get a keep sake but I remember my parents taking me to London to see a show and I was allowed to buy a box of posh chocolates. I still remember it feeling really special and grown up.

avocadoze · 10/01/2020 17:57

I got ds a book called “how to be a brilliant teen”. It’s full of stuff I wish I’d thought about at that age.

FruityWidow · 10/01/2020 17:59

Yep, a white and gold version of those sun/stars duvet cover that were everywhere in the 90's. Britney Spears - Baby One More Time CD single. A Forever Friend's diary with a padlock with a furry pen and probably some other bits and pieces that I don't remember.

OhWellThatsJustGreat · 10/01/2020 17:59

I had a meal out with friends, I felt very grown up, but no I don't remember what gifts I received.

katy1213 · 10/01/2020 18:00

No. But I wouldn't have wanted keepsake things. Was threatened with a charm bracelet for my 18th but stood firm against it, knowing I'd be given stupid charms for the rest of my life! Still hate charm bracelets!

Shockers · 10/01/2020 18:01

No, but it was 40 years ago.

HandsOffMyRights · 10/01/2020 18:02

A Swatch Watch in 1986 which I still have to this day.
I loved it!

SwiftAnchor · 10/01/2020 18:03

No, and I don't remember what my now 19 year old got for their 13th either! Confused

KurriKurri · 10/01/2020 18:03

I got a guitar - still have it and I'm 60 now Grin

Mandarinfish · 10/01/2020 18:03

No, I haven't a clue!

Patsypie · 10/01/2020 18:07

My grandmother gave me a bottle of Anaïs Anaïs and £13 pound coins in a purse I still use! I can't imagine a 13 year old being too impressed these days

Grumpbum123 · 10/01/2020 18:08

A pony

Zaphodsotherhead · 10/01/2020 18:08

I think it was a headcollar and haynet for my pony.

I had no idea that we were supposed to have 'keepsakey' type stuff for the 13th, don't think any of my kids got anything particularly special for their 13ths. Not sure 13 is a great age for keepsake type stuff, they still tend to be a bit lackadaisical about caring for their things, don't they?

LauraLooDerby · 10/01/2020 18:12

Prodigy Fat of the Land CD for definite, can't remember anything else present-wise.
We went ice skating in Nottingham - dad borrowed his work's minibus and I took 5-6 friends - and then back to my house for tea where I put ketchup on a banana and ate it.
I am 36 :)

EpicDay · 10/01/2020 18:14

My parents bought me a piano for my 13th birthday. I have just turned 50 and still have it (although it is definitely showing signs of wear and tear!!)

WellTidy · 10/01/2020 18:14

No idea. But it won’t have been anything of special significance. Those types of gifts came on my 18th (Gold locket) and 21st (gold watch). I don’t wear either and haven’t done for years!

OneMoreRound · 10/01/2020 18:14

Nope
But Im nearly 40 with a hazy memory!

Sgtmajormummy · 10/01/2020 18:14

I know because I still have a photo.
A Lady Diana pie crust blouse and a maroon tartan kilt. And a Rubik’s cube. Guess what year it was!
I think 12 is more of a landmark birthday than 13. I got a dog for that, as I was finally considered old enough to take care of one.

DelphiniumBlue · 10/01/2020 18:18

Dunno, was so long ago! Probably an album, maybe something to wear, I think possibly my first Georgette Heyer novel, which was Recency Buck!

1forsorrow · 10/01/2020 18:18

Haven't got a clue, it was 53 years ago so would be a bit ask. Having said that I know what I got for my 12th birthday, probably the only birthday I could confidently tell you what my main present was. It was a puppy, I had wanted a dog for years and it was a big surprise except I heard the muttered whispering a couple of days before the event and heard something being put in a cupboard so I sneaked in and had a look. I found a little blue collar and lead, I was so thrilled and don't know how I didn't let on I knew. He was the most perfect dog in the world, I've had others but he had my heart and could never be replaced. He would come in my bedroom in the morning and sit on my bed with his nose 1cm from mine and as soon as I opened my eyes he would lick me to death. I feel a bit weepy thinking about him.
