For traffic - what would you think of these symptoms

Hi, son messaged me earlier - I was waiting for the bus and my hand just feels numb, like I'm disassociating from it, can't move it properly. Then it feels like my legs are, and then my mouth, so I'm constantly moving and fidgeting to keep a sense of feeling. Really freaked me out, lasted about an hour.

He's just message again to say it's coming on again. He's at work (retail) so hoping he's out back sitting down quietly.

I did wonder if it could be anxiety, but not sure. Thanks

Anyone?

Not medically trained but sounds anxiety related to me.

DownWhichOfLate · 10/01/2020 19:18

Stress / tiredness / beginning of something viral. Doubt it’s anything serious. But have bugger all medical knowledge.

wouldyouadamandeveit · 10/01/2020 19:20

Thanks both. He did burn the candle at both ends the night before, so lack of sleep and a bit hungover probably explains it.

He's under strict instructions to get an early night and lay off the beer for a while.

He's a worrier though so I know it will play on his mind.....

I was going to ask about booze or drugs. Yeah. Lay off the alcohol, get some sleep and eat well. Bit of daytime light as well - vitamin d.

MoonfaceAndSilky · 10/01/2020 19:32

I get something very similar where I feel like my arms, legs and even my head is falling asleep but I'm wide awake. I then have to move to stop it. I have concluded that it is anxiety because I only ever get it when out and on my own.
Oh I do have low iron too.

MoonfaceAndSilky · 10/01/2020 19:35

He's a worrier though

Probably anxiety then. The more he worries the worse it will get Sad

WhyNotMe40 · 10/01/2020 19:38

I've had that in the lead up to an ocular migraine. Ended up being checked for stroke at a&e as it was one sided, but the classic visual disturbances came on as I was waiting to be triaged a couple of hours later.

wouldyouadamandeveit · 10/01/2020 19:56

I'm hoping his girlfriend will calm him down as she's very level headed.

I've experienced the fear a couple of times, but it's always been a sense of doom. Never had physical symptoms.

Anxiety can cause those symptoms as can many other things, one being a stroke although it’s very unlikely. I hope he’s ok xx

wouldyouadamandeveit · 10/01/2020 20:11

@aNonnyMouse1511 Thanks, me too x

HowDoIhelp321 · 10/01/2020 20:26

Bloody horriblez

YappityYapYap · 10/01/2020 20:31

How old is your son OP?

wouldyouadamandeveit · 10/01/2020 21:26

@YappityYapYap Not sure. Have messaged but he's on a 6 month with girlfriend anniversary.....

He has experienced anxiety before so I do suspect it is that.

Will update when he bothers to respond!

wouldyouadamandeveit · 10/01/2020 21:27

@YappityYapYap sorry, I thought you asked how he was!! Must get my eyes tested.

He's 23.

One of those weird things you don't worry about unless it happens a few more times in near future.

Lunde · 10/01/2020 21:33

Could be many things

  • stress and anxiety
  • something neurological - trapped nerve in spine or disc pressing on spine
  • something like fibromyalgia
  • viral illness

needs to be checked out

Hotpinkangel19 · 10/01/2020 21:37

I wouldn't just put it down to anxiety, I'd get an appointment to get it checked out.

Supersimkin2 · 10/01/2020 21:40

Hangover.

wouldyouadamandeveit · 10/01/2020 21:42

@Hotpinkangel19 That's exactly what I've told him to do and he's said he would. I really hope it's nothing other than an adverse reaction to lack of sleep and a hangover.
