How many coat hooks do you have in your hall

Quite likely the most boring mumsnet thread ever.

Moving on.... how many coat hooks do you have in your hall? And how many people in your family? Do guests have space to hang coats? If not, where do their coats go?

Thank you!

Just counted, 32!

Plus 2 12 pair shoe racks, and a 10 pair shoe rack, plus 3 slide out bins for hats, scarfs etc.

Oh, and a hat/ umbrella stand!

Good grief!

We have a closet in our Hall with hooks but tend to store coats in our wardrobes tbh, so usually only kids schools coats and bags in there. Guests usually hang their coats on the back of the kitchen chairs tbh, or hanging in the utility if they’ll be staying more than a couple of hours.

Ariela · 09/01/2020 08:50

1 per person, 2 spare and lower down 2 kids ones.
Small hall!

CherryPavlova · 09/01/2020 08:52

None. I couldn’t bear piles of coats everywhere. A coat stand for an umbrella and visitors coats. Most go in the boot room.

ExpletiveDelighted · 09/01/2020 08:56

We don't have space for coats and hoodies in our wardrobes, no boot room, no utility, small understairs cupboard only so they have to go in the hall. No room for a cupboard in the hall either, so no real choice but to have pegs there. It's not great clutterwise but at least they are where you need them.

8 4 high and 4 kid height. They're full at the minute. Winter coats all go away in summer. If we have a lot of people over their coats go on the bed upstairs, if it's a couple we squeeze them on!

stripeypillowcase · 09/01/2020 09:02

6
4 of us. each has only their seasonal coats on there, the others are packed away until next season.

Chuffit · 09/01/2020 09:13

None. They're all in a cupboard under the stairs hung on coat hangers.

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 09/01/2020 10:24

We have 3 in the cupboard under the stairs. 6 of us use them and there's still space for guests to hang their coats on them too

BiddyPop · 09/01/2020 10:44

3 hooks beside the front door - 1 each.

We also have a bunch of hooks under the stairs. And keep the "off season" coats upstairs in a wardrobe.

Over winter, we have the everyday coats beside the door - decent rain proof coats for commuting on public transport to work but also formal enough for work purposes for 2, the formal school coat for the 3rd.

Then various other coats under the stairs include hiking and sailing jackets (so waterproof but far less formal than everyday ones), sleeveless down jackets (can also go under different raincoats on cold days), cycling jackets for commuting (2 people), and we keep the good wool coats for formal events (2 people) upstairs with the summer coats as they are less frequently used.

  1. Two rows of 8. 5 of us in the family. I've just gone and looked, currently have 2 hooks free, but most of the hooks in use have more that one coat/hoodie/jacket hanging on them.
lovemenorca · 09/01/2020 11:38

Thank you all
I’m going for the 12 hook!

😀

I too hate the current clutter but we do each have several coats and jackets ( and shoes/boots/sandals) in regular use.

2020 is to be the year of the kitchen / dining room garage conversion / extension and the part I am mostly looking forward to is the extra space near from door which will be cleared when the kitchen moved so that we shall have cupboard space for coats etc.

JigsawsAreInPieces · 09/01/2020 14:03

None in the hall. The understairs cupboard has 12 hooks, the shoe rack and the wine racks. handy if you had a bad day, coat off, shoes off, grab a bottle Grin

skatesbythesea · 09/01/2020 14:07

8 and I live alone! One has 3 different coats, scarf, some nylon shopping bags and the other has a few bags on it. Plus guests sometimes. Definitely go for more. One is hidden away on the back of the door I should add...depends on size of your hallway. Wilko has an amazingly cheap door one for 3.50.

shinynewapple2020 · 09/01/2020 18:17

6 double hooks for 3 of us, and they are rather overloaded. Every now and then DH takes half of them back to the cupboard upstairs. And yes, we swap seasonally as we also have a coats cupboard upstairs.

dementedma · 09/01/2020 18:33

None. Hooks on back of bedroom doors. Decent coats in wardrobe.

Aus84 · 10/01/2020 07:58

No one in my house owns a coat.

Ratonastick · 10/01/2020 08:05
  1. It’s a nightmare of constant clutter. One of the spare room built in wardrobes has been turned over to coats to keep the hall tidy. But that means I never have the right coat to hand and have to go rummaging (or inappropriately clad). I’m experimenting with a small chest of drawers for hats, gloves, umbrellas and bags for life, but keep forgetting them. And I do appreciate that this is the very definition of a first world problem!

I am in awe of the PP with 32 hooks!

fussychica · 10/01/2020 09:35

None.
It's a dogleg hallway in a bungalow and not wide enough for coats without looking awful. We use the second bedroom for coats with an Ikea wall fitting with a rail, hooks and 3 storage cubes on top for hats, gloves etc.
