Medium chicken, got a 2 person roast out of the breasts, then stripped and flipped it and now have a big bowl to make about 6 portions of curry to freeze.

So fucking satisfying. 8 portions for the same cost as a pack of 4 chicken breasts. ✊

Grin I don't know how you got six portions of curry out of the rest but that's great.

bellinisurge · 06/01/2020 08:35

I actually didn't do it to last night's roast chicken for the first time in ages. Got the shakes Grin. Ok ok , I bagged some up for my lunch - the guilt was too much.

Paid €9 for a large, good quality chicken.
Got roast (3 portions) pie (3) and quinoa salad (3) out of it.
So quality protein cost €1 per person/meal. Plus other ingredients obv.

Could have boiled the remains up for soup but I’m a weakling when it comes to handling cadavers and there’s still plenty of gravy for a risotto.

That would have been a MN chicken!

I'm in! Did a roast chicken last night. Fed DH, me, DD(5) and dd14mo. (Admittedly the 5 year old doesn't eat much.) Will strip it today to make a chicken and leek pie which will be 4x adult servings.
Haven't ever done the whole boil the carcass bit, might try to be brave enough though because I've got a cold and chicken soup plus the pride of fully mumsnetting a chicken might make me feel better.

How big is a MN chicken? Whenever I buy what I think is a fairly decent size chicken, we eat all the meat the first day

Pipandmum · 06/01/2020 09:48

Gosh.
Back in the day my mother had a (smaller chicken than today as we are talking 70s) and it fed five easily with pickings for later. Today bigger chicken just serves three. One of those being a teenage boy mind whereas we were all girls. Guess I'm not as good at getting all the meat off and bigger appetites.

YourOpinionIsNoted · 06/01/2020 09:54

Mine is a medium chicken, one of the roast in a bag ones that is included in asda's 3 for £10 meat deal.

Dipsydoodle · 06/01/2020 10:00

Ah we must be gluttons. A medium would only do three of us for the actual meal it was made for! With maybe a couple of scraggy pieces left which we just give the dog.

BoxedWine · 06/01/2020 10:01

Hurrah!

With two legs, thighs, wings and all the pickings from the carcass underneath that is actually quite a good amount of meat if you get it all off. But I assume OP is also padding out with a lot of veg too.
