Lesbian about to start our IVF journey

Hello all,

We are a lesbian couple about to start the journey of IVF. Looking for advice / to talk to people who have been through this previously. We are hoping to do an egg swap so that we can both be involved in the process. Looking through all the information we have been sent it sure looks like a daunting process! Neither of us have any children so this would be our first! We definitely did not realise how strict some clinics would be in terms of weight, I was especially surprised to find some clinics won’t treat without a BMI of 18-25! Has anyone else experienced this? I’m not exactly the size of a house but fear I will have to lose a little “holiday” weight to be able to get started!

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Middle aged, childless heterosexual here, so obviously no useful advice whatsoever, but if you don’t get any advice here you might want to ask for your post to be moved to the ‘becoming a parent’ boards where there will probably be a greater number of people going through the same process.

Other than that, wishing you lots of good luck 💐

We did artificial insemination and IVF - we have two kids now.

It is a gruelling and expensive process and only you can decide if it’s worth it.

We did self insemination via a friend and have an 18 year old and 15 year old now!

Good luck and always happy to chat Smile

@Twintwomums we haven’t had any tests done yet. We have our initial consultation on the 23rd of Jan, so very excited. I am 36 (so not exactly young) and my better half is 26. Congrats on the twins! It’s so nice to hear from someone else who has been through this process.

I was 36 when I had ds2 (DW had ds1 when she was 31). Smile will keep fingers crossed that all goes to plan!
