I'll admit, I'd want to have revenge on/even kill a paedophile who abused my children

I'm normally quiet rational. Believe in the law, see that things are rarely black and white etc
I don't believe in the death penalty
However when it comes to paedophiles, I can't help these rational thoughts going out the window. I applaud vigilante behaviour that reprimands them, I don't think I'd lose a blink of sleep if a known paedophile was killed. If it was my child, I'd want to make them pay.

I agree with you totally.

Namechangedforthisonly · 05/01/2020 01:08

What does your head say if the abuser is also your dc?. Ime...
Sad

Me neither but I could have no part in it myself

Bluerussian · 05/01/2020 01:11

Most of us would feel like that, Borkins. It's perfectly natural but that's why we have the law to dispense justice and restrain/incarcerate dangerous people.

lcarmichael · 05/01/2020 01:14

Have your children been abused? Seems very random to ask.
If murder is against the law and the ultimate crime then it's really not upto you to decide what circumstances permit it. What if one of your children grew up to be on offender? You'd beg for their pardon I'm sure, no doubt.
No matter how awful a crime you can't decide on your own punishment that's how the historical feuds began without end.

Then they lose you, as well, though.

BlueEyedFloozy · 05/01/2020 01:23

@Namechangedforthisonly I was about to ask the same thing.

Normally I would have no qualms on the vigilante behaviours against sexual predators but when I read comments on news stories regarding the case of my friends DC my heart broke for her and the rest of the family having to deal with the fallout whilst the DC was oblivious in prison.

Idontkowmyname · 05/01/2020 01:24

@butwhateverfor has it spot on. Would be even more tragic to lose your support after such horrific trauma.

GertiMJN · 05/01/2020 01:28

Which is why we have a legal and judicial system governed by laws rather than a vigilante one.

I don't agree with vigilante groups because they don't always get it right as innocence people have been targeted in the past.
That being said I know if someone hurt my own child I probably would be far less rational about it.

darkriver19886 · 05/01/2020 06:49

Your child pain wouldn't end just because they are dead. Death doesn't really solve anything. Besides most child abuse cases tend to involve very close relatives.

IHateBlueLights · 05/01/2020 07:03

The vigilante groups worry me. I know of a couple of people involved and they live their lives on the fringes of the law themselves. I think they get a thrill from it.

There us something very odd about anyone who pretends to be a child online. I know the police do it but they have the training.

I winder about the motives of the others - maybe they are perverts as well.

user1493413286 · 05/01/2020 07:06

I would feel the same but I wouldn’t as my child would need me to be there for them and not in prison.

joystir59 · 05/01/2020 07:19

Many men we know abuse children and women and we can't become murderers to right the wrongs men do us.....Or can we? Adrienne Rich, the American feMinist, thought violent men should be taken out with a gunshot.

olivehater · 05/01/2020 07:31

Kind of agree with vigilantism as the justice system in this country is terrible. So weighted against the victim. So easy to get off on a technicality with clever lawers. Such pathetically low sentences, more to do with the lack of money in the system than what they actually deserve. So I am all for those people that fight it.

Sorry, I mean Andrea Dworkin!
