If you moved to a better/affluent area, how did it change you/your life?

I currently stay in a nice house but in a bad area. The schools are bad and there’s not much going for it. We are considering moving to a nicer area where schools are in the top for the area/country.

But houses are much more expensive and the cost of moving is so much with stamp duty etc. Sometimes I wonder if it’s worth it.

So how did your life change if you moved to a better area?

We moved from the inner city to a small cathedral city. 9 years in, I still appreciate the peace and quiet every day. It is a lot less dirty. It's all walkable. Good variety of shops, pubs and restaurants. Schools are straightforward, not a horrible mess of selective/religious/single sex/secondary moderns by any other name.

Negatives: my days are longer. Bigger mortgage, higher council tax. Commuting on a crap rail service, currently in full-on "Fuck you, you can't nationalise us now" post-election twerk mode. The locals are more standoffish, we've only got to know incomers like ourselves, but there's plenty of us, so that's fine. Politically it's not my cup of tea.

It's so quiet right now, I can't hear any noise from outside. It's bliss. I'd do it again Smile
