Tender boobs and fever, not pregnant or breastfeeding

I posted this in the health section but haven't had any responses so I'm posting again here for traffic...

I've name changed as I'm a bit embarrassed. Last week (possibly Tuesday/Wednesday time) my left boob started to feel a bit sensitive, like it did when I was pregnant and then breastfeeding. I put it down to my contraceptive pill and hoped it would stop. Over the week it has got worse and spread to my right boob too. It feels like the feeling you get when your boobs are too full when breastfeeding. I've also had a low level fever today and woke up last night shivering a lot and generally very uncomfortable. I've got absolutely no energy today and just feel really run down.

I'm definitely not pregnant - I did a test this morning which was negative. Has anyone ever had this happen before? And if so how long did it take to go away? My tummy is also extremely bloated but I don't think that's connected. Also the other day I lost vision in my left eye (it went very blurry) which lasted about 10/15 minutes, again probably not connected but just trying to think of anything out of the ordinary. I thought maybe mastitis but that would be odd considering I've not breastfed for 2 yrs and it has spread over both breasts...it doesn't feel like normal hormonal breast tenderness, it's much stronger than that.

Thanks very much in advance.

Bump...

Also just thought, could shingles start like this? Had it when I was about 9 and I know it can come back once you've had it once...

hi its possibly mastitis. you can get it when not breastfeeding. go and see the dr tomorrow x

Namechangedfortheboobs · 04/01/2020 19:38

Thanks @memememe I did wonder. It feels so like when you get too full and need to feed but haven't breastfed in years! Can't go tomorrow as it's Sunday but will go on Monday if it hasn't improved

I have a history of really bad breast pain - they get v swollen & painful (got it now, actually). It's worse than hormonal / cyclical pain.

Go to GP Monday. They will check your breasts. I was immediately sent to breast clinic on 2ww. They may do that just to check & rule out anything - like cysts. Mine is due to fibroadenomas & scarring in fibrous tissue.

I get feverish with this too & at the moment mine are so painful I can't not wear a bra (sports bra is comfiest for me).

I'm perimenopausal & they've said the weirder hormone fluctuations cause the tissue to do this.

Don't know if that helps, but don't worry. Just get GP to check.

Thanks @QueenOfOversharing , I'm sorry you experience this too! I've never had anything like it before so slightly baffled. I never got mastitis whilst actually breastfeeding so I'm a bit bewildered as to why I would get it now...

I'm hoping it will miraculously go away by Monday but will see the GP if not. I can't wear a bra at the mo as it's too uncomfortable so really can't ignore it

I had mastitis, but this feels different. I can only wear a sports bra - you know the yoga type ones, not too tight. The things I would suggest trying til Monday - ibuprofen (it's anti-inflammatory); hot wheat pack; hot bath & submerge your boobs; a yoga bra top.

I hope yours settles & you don't need doctor.

Namechangedfortheboobs · 04/01/2020 20:42

Thank you, I will go out and get a yoga bra tomorrow and some ibuprofen. Maybe some of the heat gel stuff thank you for the advice!

I had very similar and was diagnosed with mastitis, even though I'm not breast feeding or pregnant.

QueenOfOversharing · 04/01/2020 21:06

Good luck! I really sympathise. I took my bra off, put on pjs - went to stand up & had to hold my boobs!

Namechangedfortheboobs · 04/01/2020 21:23

@Bubblysqueak ah so it can happen? I've not heard of it happening when not breastfeeding. It definitely feels like that kind of pain so I do wonder...

@QueenOfOversharing ouch, poor you!! I've been meaning to get some comfier bras so will take this as my opportunity!

@Namechangedfortheboobs best for me are yoga bra tops or Sloggi Zero Feel bralette. Only things I can wear - no underwire but supportive.

Bubblysqueak · 05/01/2020 18:49

Yes I had it once at the beginning of the year and again just before Christmas. It's really not nice, you get all of the pain and the flu like symptoms. It took two lots of antibiotics and anti fungal treatment for me to clear it.
