My Facebook friend says that due to having left his car’s lights on, the battery went flat and the car wouldn’t start. Following this, due to the power of prayer, the car re-started.
So why did the car actually re-start?

Title should say, ‘by the power of prayer.’

I've had this.

He's got in the car, realised the lights were on still, swore and turned them off. Tried car and it won't start. So he's sat with his head on steering wheel for a few mins, contemplating his options. And praying.

Then tried again and car started.

AA man who turned up to mine when I did it turned key and it started straight away. He told me even though a battery might be too flat initially to start the engine, a tiny bit if residual power remains in the cells and if you are lucky, once you have turned everything else off, it's enough to fire the engine up. Then the alternator kicks in and starts recharging the battery.

If the initial event was in the morning, and the actual startup was later, the temperature could have been a few degrees warmer which also helps.
