When do babies start to get that night time is for sleeping? What am I doing wrong?

DD is 6 months and relatively easy but nocturnal. Last night at 3am she was wide awake and babbling away to herself. Eventually she got upset, but when I went to get her she beamed at me and was clearly well up for social hour!

She's a PFB so we've been neurotic about making 'a bedtime'- bath, dim lights, story....

what should I be doing? Do I go to her at night when she wants someone to talk to?

Is she napping too much in the day? Little ones sleep program has a suggested schedule for this age range that I found very helpful. If you'd rather not pay, Huckleberry is a free app and will also suggest when she should be napping.

You're not doing anything wrong, six months is early for a baby to be sleeping though the night. Just keep going with your bedtime routine and baby will learn to sleep longer in time, for my son he was 18 months before he slept all night without waking.

My DD was 34 months before she slept through

Some babies get it, others don’t. Sorry. All you can do is persevere with it. My first was awake most nights for a two hour period (!) from about 2am - 4am until... well, sometimes still now at 5 years old. My second has slept well since birth.

Well my eldest only started consistently sleeping through with no wake ups last year.....at 5.

Still working on the 3 year old.

Please don’t think you’re doing anything wrong. All children sleep through the night at different ages. When my lo was a baby, she thought that days were for sleeping and nights were for partying. I was so glad when she grew out of that.
