Could Trumps actions trigger WWIII and if it did, what would it look like?

Technology and warfare has changed beyond compare since WWII and how we live has changed so much.

I cannot even comprehend a scenario where all men are drafted in (and women?), where we would have to send our dc off to remove areas and hope they returned when it finished.

Would it be more of a distance thing? Cyber? Nuclear? It almost doesn't bear thinking about.

Gosh it is a scary thought! I like to think underneath the surface of it all, the powers of the world know it is not worth nuclear devastation. But who knows with a fool like Trump.

I don’t really have much to offer but I’m in hospital with a transverse baby and will be following all the interesting responses Grin

fastliving · 03/01/2020 19:15

I assume mostly done by drones.
Terrifying for civilians.
Potential for cities and towns to be completely wiped out in minutes I assume.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 03/01/2020 19:17

I think the "on the ground" consequences would be more far reaching nowadays. Damage in WWII was on the battlefields and then where ever they dropped the bombs each day.

Hopefully not. But I know lots of people in last Iraq war that seemed to think that well if you join the army what do you expect. Without realising if people didn’t enlist we would still have to have a certain sized army one way or another.

I have relatives who have been in the army comparing notes with friends today on how much longer their compulsory rejoin orders last for. Usually 10y or so after you left, where if the army say Come back you have to go.

Attacks on critical national infrastructure.

Knock out the National Grid, the NHS IT systems (damn good reason for not having a single nation-wide one for everything, if you ask me), some traffic and air control systems and the country would be on its knees in no time

7salmonswimming · 03/01/2020 19:20

It’ll look like a megalomaniac going on a self-serving rampage: vicious, brazen, inhumane, wantonly cruel. Deaths will mount up significantly higher on one side than the other.

The man is a supremacist. He thinks Americans (meaning WASPs) are supreme in the world. Not a hair on his head will be touched. Countless other human beings will lose their families, homes, national treasures, livelihoods and many more will carry scars for generations.

He’s a monster.

eurochick · 03/01/2020 19:26

It would be warheads launched from afar and drone strikes, coupled with lone jihadis who get riled up by the rhetoric using the kind of lorry bombs and homemade devices we have seen in Europe from time to time, but a lot more frequent.

Trump is a dangerous idiot to stir things up this way.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 03/01/2020 19:29

I think the next world war will be nuclear so we won't need to worry for too long once it's started because it'll be the beginning of the end

mumwon · 03/01/2020 19:35

It doesn't even make logical sense - An embassy in Iraq gets protesters in - I don't think any staff were hurt - & he bombs a general in another country - um Trump just because the countries start with the same letter … his argument is that he is protecting Unites States serviceman - no, you are going to cause more casualties because obviously this country is volatile - I think its to get attention away from whats happening in the senate & courts & to generate the militant America First lunatics to back him as a leader. God help the rest of the world & American & OUR serviceman - he didn't even tell his allies (us) that he was doing this.

GeorgiaGirl52 · 03/01/2020 19:37

He had to do something to take attention off impeachment. He will be grandstanding a lot because it is an election year in the US. Most likely his actions will trigger a surge in terrorist attacks all over the US and Europe.

mumwon · 03/01/2020 19:37

as for war I hope me & mine are at ground zero if nuclear war occurs. I always said that someone should check that mans head to see if the numbers 666 are printed there. Please God he survives enough to suffer

GiveHerHellFromUs · 03/01/2020 19:41

@mumwon or gets assassinated, which normally I wouldn't condone but he's an exceptional case

mumwon · 03/01/2020 19:47

@GiveHerHellFromUs to quote "You may say that I couldn't possible comment" -

SinglePringle · 03/01/2020 20:07

I think it’ll be a war based on cyber attacks at first. Knock out the communications and unseen infrastructure. Once that’s weak, drones to drop chemical weapons / bombs on the people.

Syria on a global scale.

JustASmallTownCurl · 03/01/2020 20:46

I can't believe that the supposed leader of the free world uses twitter like a goady fucker using Mumsnet.

Sometimes I feel like I'm watching a really, really shit film. I remember when his election victory was announced.

This man is using Twitter not to share official, well constructed and considered statements in an instant and accessible way. But instead using it to dick swing at the expense of other people's safety.

Stop the world, I want to get off.

JustASmallTownCurl · 03/01/2020 20:50

And agree it will be a surge in terror attacks causing increased (if even possible) global tension, doubtlessly each time activating a "retaliation" reaction from The White House.

I think a cycle of incredibly horrific terror attacks from all parties will continue for years and years and eventually I think nuclear war is surely inevitable in the long run?

calmpuppycrazykids · 03/01/2020 20:50

I've never worried about WW3 happening as i always believed that common sense would kick in and nothing would happen.
After what Trump has done im quite worried.
I just have a bad feeling about all this

Patroclus · 03/01/2020 21:17

It would move into space for the first time and mean a lot of submarine stuff. There would also be an equivelent war in the world of Finance. Except for security, there isnt much point with massed infntry anymore than can be wiped out with one missile.

Patroclus · 03/01/2020 21:23

The US Military is still absolutely massive. Even China arnt anywhere near. Drones arnt really that useful in this situation because they cant hold much.

RoundWithAFridge · 03/01/2020 21:32

This

mumwon · 03/01/2020 22:23

Seriously best not to think to deeply about this - because what could happen is beyond any horror film you can imagine - we just have to hope (& pray if you believe) that this wont happen. Personally, I think we should encourage trump to eat more burgers & hide his statins - it I don't laugh at him & his behaviour I would weep at the stupidity & waste of his actions

meditrina · 05/01/2020 07:46

Do not know how likely no thus wouid take to verify, but it looks as if cyber attacks have begun with a little hacking
