I’m utterly wide awake and hungry. All I can think about is buttery toast but there’s no bread 😭😭😭

My problem is total lack of control. I’d eat the full loaf if I had one 🐷

When I used to have fasting days, I'd be wide awake at bedtime. I think cutting down gave me so much more energy than before.
I sure could do with that now, fattie that I am Blush

ninaricciapple · 03/01/2020 02:33

Still awake, FFS, even after putting my phone down for an hour 🤬🤬🤬

If your awake all night due to hunger I would just have something to eat. You can still lose weight without being up for long periods feeling so hungry

Airplanes · 03/01/2020 04:29

If you reduce your carb intake too quickly it can cause a lot of problems with sleep

Taddda · 03/01/2020 04:43

I have fasting days too @Dieu and really struggle to sleep I night- interesting about the reduced carbs possibly having an effect....

Genvonklinkerhoffen · 03/01/2020 05:01

I'm fasting. I also have a broken heart which isn't helping. No sleep at all here.

surlycurly · 03/01/2020 05:08

Aw poor you and your broken heart @Genvonklinkerhoffen . I hope it stops hurting soon x

Blondie1984 · 03/01/2020 05:14

I have to have a carb based snack before bed or I struggle to sleep and wake up ravenous

TickledOnion · 03/01/2020 06:17

I had no idea low carbs could result in bad sleep. I’ve had 2 terrible nights sleep since I started my diet. I’m still eating loads of fruit and veg but almost no proper carb stuff. Any ideas what I can eat to help? I don’t want to tempt myself with bread.

Airplanes · 03/01/2020 08:07

I eat butternut squash or sweet potato instead of potatoes for dinner. Parsnips are good too

Ellegeebee · 03/01/2020 08:12

Yes, this happens to me the first week, I think it’s the withdrawal from sugar for me, drives me mad, combined with headaches. It passes though and will be worth it

Fredy45 · 03/01/2020 09:00

Yes - I tried intermittent fasting in December and my sleep was shot. It's a thing apparently due to hunger making cortisol levels rise.

Mojitosinthesun · 03/01/2020 09:01

I don't diet, but if I eat too early then I definitely struggle to sleep. Carbs before bed do help, but I understand it's not the best health advice. That said, poor sleep is just as unhealthy imo.

Blondie1984 · 03/01/2020 16:53

It’s been proven that the whole “eating carbs before bed makes you gain weight” thing is nonsense - it more depends on WHAT carbs you are eating eg if you eat a family bag of Jelly Babies that’s as much carb as 3 baked potatoes- and you really don’t want that before bed

The best things to have are slow releasing carbohydrates like whole grain toast, oats, rye crackers etc with some sort of protein eg porridge made with milk (milk releases seratonin with aids sleep) peanut butter on toast, cream cheese on Ryvita, yoghurt and banana etc

Skatesbythesea · 03/01/2020 18:14

Buttery toast is my nemesis! I find a spoonful of yoghurt or glass of hot milk helps with cravings.
