Wondering what people think of the pope

Savannaha · 02/01/2020 23:41

Has anyone seen the video of the pope slapping away a woman's hand?
What are people's opinions?

She grabbed and pulled at him. I think slapping away her hand was justified.

lastqueenofscotland · 02/01/2020 23:48

It wasn’t comfortable viewing but he’d already tried to pull away more than once from that woman

KindaEnjoySchoolHolidays · 02/01/2020 23:49

She did yank at his arm, and pulled him back when he tried to get away the first time. It looked like she was causing pain, and he’s an old man even if he is Pope.
Has she apologised?

Shows he's human like rest of us. He's 83 yrs old (!) says google. A fall could be a severe injury to him. She nearly pulled him over.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 02/01/2020 23:50

Agree it wasn’t comfortable viewing but I think it was an instinctive reaction and he would have done the same to a man.

CalleighDoodle · 02/01/2020 23:51

She yanked the arm of an elderly man. If she had done that to me i would have been in pain with the state my back is always in. And im 40.

wowfudge · 02/01/2020 23:52

It was the kind of reaction anyone would have had to what she did. His security team were clearly concerned.

loutypips · 02/01/2020 23:53

She nearly pulled him over. I would imagine that she was gripping on hard and wouldn't let go. It would be a natural reaction, but his security guards should've stepped in sooner.

LucaFritz · 02/01/2020 23:55

She assaulted an elderly man and he defended himself but his security should have stepped in sooner

XXcstatic · 02/01/2020 23:56

Agree. I doubt he even had time to notice who the person grabbing him was. He looks frightened in the video, which is not surprising how many nutters a pope must attract - and he will remember how JPII was nearly assassinated. He may also have been scared of being pulled over. I think he panicked slightly and was desperate for her to let go.

dudsville · 03/01/2020 06:21

I know nothing of the guy but I've seen the video. I gather the discomfort is regarding a notion that someone in his position shouldn't defend himself, and perhaps shouldn't defend himself against a woman. I disagree and see nothing wrong with it, but as I said, I have no context for this.

Moreisnnogedag · 03/01/2020 06:26

I felt sorry for him - she proper grabbed him and wouldn’t let go. His security team are a bit crap though.

FenellaMaxwell · 03/01/2020 06:29

She essentially assaulted him - his reaction was completely normal considering!

mintich · 03/01/2020 06:36

I think his reaction was totally understandable

ShatnersWig · 03/01/2020 07:59

Already been a couple of threads on this

Likethebattle · 03/01/2020 08:10

It was justified, he didn’t hit her hard just slapped at her to let go and looked like she had hurt him.

FredaFrogspawn · 04/01/2020 11:57

He slapped away her hand rather than punch her in the chops. She yanked him really hard!

TSSDNCOP · 04/01/2020 12:16

I think he’s an old fella in charge of a corrupt and outdated institution.

But if you’re specifically asking about the incident where he was grabbed by a woman in a crowd, I cannot condemn his actions. I also don’t think he should’ve apologised, but she should have and so should his security team.

Bluerussian · 04/01/2020 12:29

The woman was seriously out of order, she wouldn't let go when he tried to pull away. He didn't injure her. I think she behaved quite embarrassingly to be quite honest.

SF1269 · 04/01/2020 14:22

She was totally wrong, he was quite restrained by just slapping her hand to get her to let go, someone else might have thrown a left hook at her.

PlanDeRaccordement · 04/01/2020 14:26

Yes I’ve seen the video of a woman assaulting the Pope and getting a light tap on the wrist for it. She should have been arrested.

SilverySurfer · 04/01/2020 14:28

She was totally wrong to drag an old man backwards, he was fully justified in slapping her.

iklboo · 04/01/2020 14:35

What would you have done if some random fanatic repeatedly grabbed your arm and pulled you towards them?

Mookie81 · 04/01/2020 19:37

She deserved a smack in the mouth Prescott style.
What she did was disgusting and if the sexes were reversed, people wouldn't be 'uncomfortable' with it Xmas Hmm.

XXcstatic · 04/01/2020 19:42

I also don’t think he should’ve apologised, but she should have and so should his security team

There isn't a close protection team in the world that can protect you if you insist on doing this sort of walkabout. They can't screen the whole crowd or take down anyone behaving in an unusual manner which, considering the crowd were in the midst of an intense religious experience, was probably many of them.
