Who else treats New Year’s Eve as a normal night?

I’ve never really celebrated it, or in fact have never actually gone out for it.

Kids are a bed, I’ve had a nice baileys tipple, ate far too many Christmas chocolates in front of the tv, and have now gone up to bed with no intention of seeing the new year in.

Our friends all go out and celebrate so we’re probably deemed as boring but I couldn’t think of anything worse than forcing myself up until midnight and then getting up only a few hours later to start the day with the DC!

What are your plans?

Just watched a film on tv and now about to go to bed - snap Grin

I used to go out and party and give myself the pressure of having “the best night of the year”. It never was. So now I think: Sod that! And treat it like a normal night.

I much prefer New Year’s Day and a lovely walk in the fresh air.

Happy new year everyone!

CurlsandCurves · 31/12/2019 22:09

Yep!

DH has always worked NYE. But even before I met him I’ve never really understood why it’s a big deal.

These days I enjoy having a night to myself, the kids are chilling out on their various devices. Doubt I’ll make it to midnight but I’m really not bothered.

I’m more excited for the year ahead than one night.

Me 😁
I'm travelling a couple of hours to see a friend tomorrow so I'm ready for bed now and hoping fireworks and drunk people won't wake me (Ha!).
Don't see it as something to celebrate but I'm not miserable about it.

Yep, just another day.

CherryPlum · 31/12/2019 22:11

Me! I'm reading in bed at the moment.

Clevererthanyou · 31/12/2019 22:14

Me! I’m crocheting a toy rat, my son has named him Squeak (I wanted to call him Bleddyn but what do I know eh?) Tomorrow I’m playing with my sons new Play Doh set and baking biscuits. Nothing new to see here 😀

betternamechangeforthisone · 31/12/2019 22:16

Same!
Played a couple of games with the DC.

Just asked my OH if he fancied a film but it’s too late apparently Confused

kinsss · 31/12/2019 22:23

When you think about it, it really is a load of marketing shite.

Am in bed listening to a book from Borrowbox. It is the simple things!

But in fairness, good luck to those who enjoy going out tonight. I just can't be bothered anymore. LOL. But enjoy it whatever you do.

YorkieTheRabbit · 31/12/2019 22:28

Same here, I’m in bed there’s already fireworks going off Hmm and we live across the road from a golf club which will have its usual noisy display at midnight. Never understood why people are so hyped up about the 31 December

goose1964 · 31/12/2019 22:28

We've just had a turkey chilli ,although it was too hot for me. I've had a few beers an an now on the cider. I think pudding is going to be a slice of tarte au chocolat we had Christmas day, it was supposed to have 70%chocolate only DH bought 85% so it's rock solid , with ice cream..

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 31/12/2019 22:28

Agree ... DH and I cooked a nice meal we ate with DD 11 (wine for us) and shared a bottle of fizz watching a film on Netflix.

He's taking her to see the cinema tomorrow am and I'm looking forward to my first run of 2020 in the morning .. I've new headphones and running bottoms to wear so sadly excited Grin. As Kin says, the simple things rock!

Happy New Year folks Xmas Smile

Scoffingaftereights · 31/12/2019 22:29

I start work in an hour, so just a normal night for me!

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 31/12/2019 22:35

happytobeheresparkl · 31/12/2019 22:38

Laid on the sofa ... legs being stroked by the husband.. perfect night ...

Properfatty · 31/12/2019 22:45

Me. Except my house is a bit cleaner.
Working tomorrow so heading to bed soon but no doubt the fireworks will wake me back up at midnight

CurlsandCurves · 31/12/2019 22:48

I want to and read in bed now having read your comments, so I’m off.

ToTheRegimentIWishIWasThere · 31/12/2019 23:04

You can't call a 🐁 Bleddyn, it would have to be Llywelyn 🦁 but I like Squeak!

Currently cuddling a sleeping but fractious 3yo and about to try and brush my teeth and get to bed. Not arsed about new year at all.

EnidButton · 31/12/2019 23:09

Always disliked the hype. Always went out out as a teenager/early 20's and had one good nye out of about 8. Then staying in it was just boring and still hyped. A couple of years ago I decided I wasn't participating in any way.

But I do use it as a self care/pampering night. Bubble bath, hair mask etc. With something nice to drink and whatever fancy chocolates I got for Xmas (sea salt caramel truffles this year.) It makes it nicer and I can ignore it.

mrsed1987 · 31/12/2019 23:13

We havent really been new year people but even less so this year with our nearly 1 year old! I dont think its a big a deal as its made out to be

shinynewapplesonachristmastree · 31/12/2019 23:16

Yes normal evening here. Just watched a couple of old episodes of 24, DH has gone up to bed to listen to some music, I'm part reading, part looking at MN. DS has gone into town with his friends to celebrate. The dog is hiding behind the sofa as fireworks already started.

DH and I have already had our celebration time as we went away over the weekend. I'm just planning a few resolutions I probably won't get round to doing!!

HildaTablet · 31/12/2019 23:17

Me too. Have my earplugs ready. I've always hated all the New Year hype and I cannot understand why anyone gets so excited thinking that a new year will magically be any better than the old one. It's just another day.

Southmouth · 01/01/2020 15:46

Seems like I’m not the only one then! I loved my nice peaceful night, didn’t even hear any fireworks here either so no one got woken up and the kids even had a rare lay in...bonus!

@Clevererthanyou That rat is fab!

We had a normal Tuesday night too , my husband was due at work at 8am today so even more reason to do so. Our wonderful dohm white noise machine did a good job at dulling the firework noise.
