Premier league football match for a 7 yo. Yes or No?

DS is football crazy and ‘supports‘ a premier League team. I have never followed football and tend to be horrified by the football crowd.....although have come to appreciate that it’s actually an internationally bonding sport. I found some tickets to a game late in the season and suggested taking DS. DH has previously tried to take DS but the tickets were £300 each!!!!! DH doesn’t think I should take DS as I’ll be really shocked by the culture and swearing. (Im not sure why this wasn’t an issue when he was going to take DS). Any thoughts appreciated. I’m happy with noise and light heart banter, but I don’t want to take DS to an event where swearing and racism is considered normal.

DS2 has been going since he was 5...he’s now 9. He also plays in the Development Centre for the club...Premier League but only just. DS1 is 14 and has a season ticket so he sometimes takes with him on his own (which I worried about the first time but DS1 is nearly 6ft and is super sensible!). DS2 absolutely loves it.

Avoid away matches, evening matches and Derby’s and it’ll be fine. I used to go a lot as a child and it was fine then and football is much more family focused now :)

Something else to bear in mind is that they do move matches around due to tv schedules. We had tickets for an afternoon match that got moved to an evening kick off so it cone screened on sky. My 6 year old would not have coped with being up that late so I returned the tickets for a refund. Fortunately he didn't know I had tickets for that match. Something to hear in mind.

don't worry about getting food at the ground, the game lasts 2 hours and is usually at 3pm on a Saturday, so why people feel the need for a pie or hotdog I don't know.

I had a season ticket at Fulham for a number of years, they're a particularly friendly club, some would say boring, but if you're taking kids it's perfect.

My 7 year old has had Season Ticket for NUFC for 2 years... he loves it. Also serves well in teachings home to manage disappointment ;)

I wouldn’t hesitate to take a 7yo to a Premier League match. At that age my DS’s were season ticket holders. If you’re concerned about swearing, look for tickets in the family stand.

My sister has been taking her girls to "local awful team" since they were 4, and they love it. She goes in the family end. The only time she leaves them at home is the local derby as she likes to have a few beers and swear at my team and it wouldn't be suitable for them.

Anyone else dying to know which team it is? Grin
