Is it definitely a star and not one of the planets - Venus is a contender.

SallyLovesCheese · 29/12/2019 18:15

Venus.

WifOfBif · 29/12/2019 18:16

It’s Venus.

LoveNote · 29/12/2019 18:18

Oh wow

Didn’t think it would be a planet. It’s lovely

I always use the app StarTracker. Love it. Shows where everything is.

Stars flicker, planets don’t. At times you can also see Jupiter and Mars with the naked eye.

Bogoffrain · 29/12/2019 18:22

Venus

iklboo · 29/12/2019 18:24

The Evening (and morning) Star. Lovely. Definitely download a star map - they're brilliant for getting to know the night sky.

1066vegan · 29/12/2019 18:32

I've got the Sky Map app. It's another free one. Point it at the sky and it tells you what you're looking at.

TheZeppo · 29/12/2019 18:37

You can see Jupiter? Please tell me more!

iklboo · 29/12/2019 18:43

Oh yes. Jupiter is visible. Looks like a bright star with little bits cut out at the edges where some of it's moons are. Mars is reddish and you can see Saturn too.

A pair of binoculars (don't have to be £££) are great for making the details pop.

Lanaa · 29/12/2019 18:48

We had this exCt same conversation white driving home at about 5pm. I downloaded the app and as pp have said, it's definitely Venus. It's really bright/unusual.

Lanaa · 29/12/2019 18:48

Exact while...

Brahumbug · 29/12/2019 20:13

You can also see Saturn and Mercury with the naked eye and, theoretically, Uranus.

iklboo · 29/12/2019 20:22

@Brahumbug - fnarr fnarr

ChipInTheSugar · 29/12/2019 20:29

I got a quick pic of them earlier. Now I'm thinking the edge of the clouds looks like another VERY close planet!

Venus. Other times you can see Jupiter or Mars.

Perid0t · 29/12/2019 20:36

We were out for a walk earlier and I snapped a pic. Not great as its on iPhone but if you zoom in you can see it x

Wow! I love things like this. Another app I need to download!

I'll be storm tracking and planet gazing in 2020 Grin

MulticolourMophead · 29/12/2019 20:47

Terrifying and fascinating in equal measure - so many questions.
I know I sound like a six year old or a dim stoned person but I love the idea of an afterlife where you get to be a spirit and be able to travel anywhere and be able see the sun etc up close.

beelzeboob · 30/12/2019 00:46

@iklboo your first comment doesn’t make sense - Venus is a planet

1066vegan · 30/12/2019 07:11

I think you misread. The first comment asked op if she was sure it was a star and then said that it could be Venus instead.

Although Venus did used to be known as the morning star.

iklboo · 30/12/2019 09:26

@beelzeboob - sorry you've misread. I asked if OP was sure it was a star and not a planet, with Venus being a contender if it was a planet.
