Numb mouth after eating sausage roll?

On Boxing Day I made a small buffet/spread for my family and a few friends. We had bought festive sausage rolls from Asda which were all packaged up.
They had cranberry sauce in and pork stuffing, you know the type. I had eaten two through out the night. I was drinking and was merry by midnight but absolutely aware of what was going on.
I was eating another sausage roll and with the first bite, I tasted a really weird chemical taste and mentioned it to my partner and his friend. I continued to chew the first bite and felt my tongue instantly tingle with a numbness like when a dentist gives you anaesthetic my lips started to go the same way. This was within a minute or so of swallowing the first bite.
My partner and friend didn't know what to say as it was a weird experience, I kept saying I feel like I could bite through my tongue as I had no feeling at all in it.
This lasted about 10-15 mins and the numbness started to wear off.

Has this happened to anyone else ever? After eating food? I'm still no wiser on how this happened and it has never happened in my life.
I understand I'm posting this in the early hours of the morning so will bump this in the morning as I'm intrigued.
Thanks MN

Sounds like it could be a mild allergic reaction to an ingredient in the sausage roll?

DS1 and I both have this with kiwi fruit, it's a mild allergy (he gets a rash around his mouth too, which I don't).

I'd look at the ingredients list and see if there's something in there you might have reacted to.

Often, the allergy is noticed after previous exposure. So you have the reaction after you have already previously eaten the allergen.
You had some of the rolls. Then later was when your body recognised what is now an allergen to you.
I’d mention it to GP/nurse and they can get you referred for testing.

Thanks for replies. I actually can't remember if it was the pork and stuffing or cranberries one!
The only weird thing is as soon as I put it in my mouth it tasted so chemically. Like it had a substance on top of it?
Usually I would have spat it out but because I had had a drink I kind of didn't care until my mouth went numb.
None of the others had this weird taste to it. I'm just glad my child didn't eat it.

I've had the same experience with foods I'm allergic too, the chemicaly taste. I guess it's your bodies way of making you spit it out! I always explained it as tasting of perfume!
