Would you go to the Dr with this?

Ds (5) has been feeling tired and hot since Christmas Day. He’s completely off his food too and has barely eaten for the past couple of days.
I’ve been keeping him topped up with calpol etc but I’m starting to worry about him now.

Do you think it’s worth a trip to the dr?

Yep. He’s little. Why not get checked

I'd probably assume that it's a virus and keep a close eye on him - take his temperature, make sure he drinks plenty of fluids (even ice lollies if necessary to get fluids in), check regularly for any skin rash. I don't think I'd go to the Dr at that stage as I'm not sure they can do much based on him being hot & tired/off food.

Try 111 they will advise what to do and what to keep an eye on. But agree with previous poster probably just a virus so keep an eye on his temperature and keep him as hydrated as you can.

Thank you, he’s actually much better this morning.

I just had a moment of panic when a family member made me feel bad for not taking him, but I didn’t think there was much they could do apart from give the same advice.

My mum was like this when mine had viruses. “Don’t you think he needs to see the doctor?” She is of the generation where you went to the GP for the slightest thing and expected antibiotics for everything.

I think the medical advice is as long as any temp can be controlled with medication and that they can keep enough fluids down that they aren’t getting dehydrated, and that they’re not floppy and unresponsive then they’ll most likely perk up soon.

Personally I would always take them to get a rash looked at when they are ill, even if you get told that it’s just a viral rash, so if he has anything like that, or pains anywhere apart from a bit of a headache and achy bones, then I’d take him to get looked at.

Otherwise, go by your instincts.
